Update,

Car is till making the same noise, getting louder now. Think the best thing to do is just let it finally fail and then I will finally know the problem.

Otherwise i feel I am just throwing good money after bad if you get what I mean,

I do wonder if it may be the water pump, does anyone know if the water pump runs off the cam on this car? When i had the belt changed they told me it runs separate to the cam so doesnt need doing at the same time (although it is usually good practice)

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, starting to go mad and as you can imagine the money is somewhat tight this time of year
What age is your Polo and which engine is in it?

If it has the chain driven camshaft, then I'm not sure how the water pump is driven, if it is the later 16V 1.2TSI with the turbocharger at the rear of the engine, then the water pump is driven by its own small belt and is at the gearbox end of the engine I think. If that water pump or its belt fails, it seems that not too much will happen in respect of dramatic engine damage, hopefully the engine temperature would start to increase and you could help things by running the heater flat out.

Edit:- ah, you wrote "replaced the timing belt ---" in your first posting so if it is a 1.2TSI then it is the later 16V 1.2TSI!

Hello,

It is the 2014 1.2 TSI Bluemotion if that helps?

literally still none the wiser, but what do you think about me driving it till the component fails?

I dont think it could be anything too serious considering what I have already had done?

P.S. the car only has 37'000 miles on, looks spanking new basically.

Unless you can find out what is causing this, I'd be concerned that if it causes an engine failure, the resulting extra costs might be a bit high.

Problem solved. Too worn out follower located in high pressure fuel pump. I hope my answer will be helpful. Sorry for my English language but I'm not from an English-speaking country. Cheers

Also the mechanic said that is good to replace that part every 60,000 kilometers.

Good to hear!

You might find that your written English is better than some people for whom English is their first language - so never worry about that.

And problem came back, it was ok just a few days. I’m considering to change high pressure fuel pump.

Sorry to hear about that, very annoying, I hope that not too many 1.2TSI 16V 110PS engines end up with that problem.

Three members on the Skoda motoring forum have ended up with quite big high pressure fuel leakage - fuel running down the front of the engine and out at the front of the car, due to an M6 cap head bolt of 8.8 grade popping its head off! All 3 cars were sold in 2016 and 2017!

All these small VW Group cars use the same 1.2TSI engines built in Skoda engine plants in CZ!

Had a family friend look at the car and after having the clutch replaced and the cambelt replaced he has suggested it is the gearbox, having it re-conned in the coming weeks, will keep you up to date,

So far this noise has cost me 800+

I personally don't think that these, well at least 6 speed gearboxes are not very durable - my wife's August 2015 Polo 1.2TSI 110PS had a quiet gearbox until VW dealership sorted out a gearbox mounting just inside warranty!

Hi! Has there been any update on this? I am having the same noise and cannot work out what is causing it.
