I specifically asked my dealer to tell them not to drill/screw the number plates on. When I called him they were just about to do it I so got lucky! They had no issues with sticking them on.

Looks so much better without the screws.

Some body mentioned about "dealer advertising". Quite a few years back (35+ years) when purchasing a brand new motor, I stated that I didn't want one of their garage transfers in my rear window, if they did when it was delivered, I would refuse the car. Fortunately for them, there were no advertising stickers on the car or on the number plates, as the car was delivered on the back of a transporter, they had to take off 4 other cars before mine, bad routing or bad loading? I didn't check it till it was on the road.

Yes, at one point in time, but now you tend to find, at least on UK market VW Group cars, that when you remove the lightly plated screws, like I do before replacing them with stainless steel ones, all there is behind the plates is bear bumper with newly drilled holes, so no special inserts to accept UK number plate securing screws or mainland Europe mounting plates.

I suppose it makes the lowly paid folk that carry out PDI works job easier, no needing to get it right just bang in a hole, fit the first screw then bang in another hole roughly in line with the first - job done!

Mind blown... I learnt something today then!

The picture of the red Polo above suggests that the current model comes with undrilled front and rear bumpers.

Just waiting for stick on plates.

I know Skodas have tapped bumper inserts, but you can obviously ignore such things and stick on smooth plates.

I'm still amazed that Mercedes still attach UK plates with 4 screws. Crazy.

The pictures of the red Polo in this discussion thread is a Polish registered car, although I’d expect the bumpers on UK cars to be no different - i.e. no holes drilled in the bumpers.
