GPF Filter removal

Post by Dionbutton1892 »

Has anyone with a 2019 gti+ removed their GPF filter and if so would it need a remap after or is it fine just to remove it

It will definitely require some kind of software update for the car to forget it had one and not throw up errors as a result of implausible sensory values without it.

Has been done by at least one forum member that I know of. Many more people will have done it I'm sure. Will need a software alteration for sure. Because you are in the UK the removal of the device will be illegal, so if you do proceed with a GPF delete, you have been warned.

There’s a fair chance you’ll also be invalidating your insurance, and driving without valid insurance is also illegal.

SInce you didn't ask about that and I'm not your mother nor am I your lawyer, I will not tell you what's legal and what's not :)
Sometimes I feel like this forum should change it's name to The Legal Forum....

To answer your question: yes, you will need a remap. Just removing the GPF will result in power loss, car going into limp mode and "check engine" light will come up.
