Re: Braking In GTi Plus
As far as I remember I never had issue with this while mooving in revers with transmission in neutral and withou aplying any force to break pedal. To me it feels like problem with pads.
Re: Braking In GTi Plus
Had new pads, discs and software update. Problem went away for around 4-6 weeks before coming back.Dark_cze wrote: Fri Jan 17, 2020 9:26 pm As far as I remember I never had issue with this while mooving in revers with transmission in neutral and withou aplying any force to break pedal. Yep, I'd much rather have a manual. These DSGs are very quick in engaging a gear they already have lined up, but the feathering in kind of removes a lot of that advantage as it's not fully engaging for half a second. They're also slow for downshift overtake. If you're sat at 50 in 6th and the car hogging the outside lane pulls in, you stab the accelerator and it has to drop 6th>5th>4th>3rd. Having a manual and slot 6th to 3rd, with no feathering is much quicker.Vonbek2004 wrote: Fri Jan 17, 2020 9:18 pm
Thanks for the explanation monkeyhanger.
I think cars are getting too smart for their own good these days.. all these fancy things they do takes the fun out of the "racing around" lol.

Re: Braking In GTi Plus
It's definitely some kind of resonance noise through the discs when the pads are lightly applied. Trouble with these fixes is that it's characteristic of the components they're using. So they replace the pads with the exact same type and the problem is back. Same story with OEM wiper blades (usually Valeo). You demonstrate your wipers are smeary on drivers side down stroke and they replace them with the exact same type and the problem is back straight away.Dark_cze wrote: Fri Jan 17, 2020 9:26 pm As far as I remember I never had issue with this while mooving in revers with transmission in neutral and withou aplying any force to break pedal. I think so, I will change them myself for other brand once they need itmonkeyhanger wrote: Fri Jan 17, 2020 9:33 pmIt's definitely some kind of resonance noise through the discs when the pads are lightly applied. My last 6 VWs have always had crap wipers from new, replacing with Bosch Aerotwin A864S will fix the issue- under £20 a pair (about 550 Koruna?) if you shop around.Dark_cze wrote: Fri Jan 17, 2020 9:37 pmI think so, I will change them myself for other brand once they need itmonkeyhanger wrote: Fri Jan 17, 2020 9:33 pmIt's definitely some kind of resonance noise through the discs when the pads are lightly applied. The speed (or lack of speed) that issues are fixed will largely be down to how good (or bad) the dealer is. Some dealers are much better and more customer focused than others. The servicing department of the dealership I use is pretty good, although I have to drive 30+ miles to get there. There a closer Vw dealership - about 8 miles away from where I live, but I’m prepared to travel the extra distance to get good service.Vonbek2004 wrote: Fri Jan 17, 2020 9:20 pmIt's strange that some people's issues are being fixed quicker than others and how some don't require replacement parts but just software.monkeyhanger wrote:Mine was a software update, I didn't get new pads or discs, although some have had them.S_94 wrote: Fri Jan 17, 2020 9:08 pm If anyone is given a fix for the humming noise please share, driving me mad. It's a bit of a joke really, surely VW should be looking at a fix.
It has cut moving down by about 90% - I get a moo on the first brake press when reversing, but none after that. It is still bad on the wife's but she hasn't had hers in yet. We'll get it done on the first service (May).

Re: Braking In GTi Plus
It all seems to be about how hard the dealership is willing to try for the customer. Nearly every warranty claim is reliant on getting pre-authorisation from VW first to avoid doing work that VW may not pay out on. VW are doing all they can to refuse genuine warranty work, especially the non-drivetrain stuff. Bought 10 VWs from new and the downturn in VW customer service over the last 2 years is a real eye opener. Always looking for sneaky loopholes to avoid their obligations or shift onus to supplying dealership to do free work that they won't get reimbursed for.
They no longer seem to work first and seek recompense from VW later.
Some branches seem to avoid warranty word and deter the customer as much as possible. My nearest dealership group is Lookers (formerly Benfield intil Looker bought them out). Silverlink branch is 2 miles from home, Newcastle branch is 2 Miles from work - couldn't be handier- but they're both awful. I go out of my way to Pulman VW in Sunderland who do a great job, try hard with VW to get work authorised, and don't charge £14 a day "admin fee" plus £5 insurance for one of their "free" courtesy cars like Lookers do.

Re: Braking In GTi Plus
It's a good job they make cars that are great to drive, despite their faults, because their customer service is awful. To be fair, it's never been great in my opinion, but it has taken a huge downturn lately.
Are all the other marques also bad in rectifying? Who knows?
10 VWs, only 2 have been faultless - 2 Portiguese built Sciroccos. Most things have been pretty small issues, but my 2015 Golf R needed a new turbo at 6 months, loads of work on the ACC over multiple occasions, a gritty manual gearbox that no-one would look at (I'm sure the linkage was a little off in 1st and 3rd gears) and a clutch that slipped on occasion inthe Winter at 23k miles- again, no-one would entertain the fault because it didn't throw up a code, even though I had video of the fault (a mate's go-pro strapped to my head took the footage).

Re: Braking In GTi Plus
My 2 cents on mooing is that my 2008 9N Polo also mooed after chaging discs and pads at srevice. Took it back, they exchanged parts (no software updates back then) and problem was solved.
Cut to 12 years later and my current wheels moo all the time, even after software update, but this time VW didnt change out the parts. Guess I'll have to head back at service time to have that resolved.

Re: Braking In GTi Plus
Mooing when reversing mainly only happened with the early Fabia VRS and its 9N Polo GT and Ibiza equivalent, these cars got fitted with a harmonic damper that was hung from/on the calliper assembly - sounds a bit like VW Group, probably like many other car marques is just going round in circles over many basic design issue, ie be happy that an action resolved things for a while, and not even trying to "put them to bed" - ie correctly resolve that design issue.
Level of customer service, from what I've read over the years, Skoda beat VW hands down on their drive to the bottom customer service wise, maybe VW is finding that doing that works just fine?
