Update on the sedan version:

No doubt the IQ lights will come when the AW Polo hatch is refeshed.

That is a very good looking small saloon/sedan, usually not easy to make a saloon/sedan car derived from a hatchback look good!

Just a pity that in general these small saloon/sedans don't make it to the market place - demand not there I suppose.

It'll never happen, and if it does it won't look anywhere near as good as that.

I think it will happen. There was a saloon version of the previous generation Polo in some overseas markets, sold as the Vento, which IMO was also a good looking small saloon.

It’s very unlikely the saloon will come to the UK though.

If the images are to be believed, the interior of the Polo will go the same way as the interior in the new Golf - dominated by touchscreens, which IMO are a distraction, they represent form over function, and are no where near as safe to use as conventional switches, buttons and knobs while driving.

I’d better get the order in for my GTI+ now, before the Polo gets an interior dominated by touchscreens as part of its mid life facelift (probably next year?).

The previous gen is still available here in ZA imported from India. So if the new model is assembled there it will arrive on our shores for sure.

I seemed to not use the words that I meant to, what I meant to say was it is a pity that this car will not make it to most of the European market sales areas - as there is not enough demand for them.

Though, if Polo keeps growing, it might just get into Europe in saloon form - UK at least, as a sales area, does not seem to favour saloons too much, though I do, now maybe even an estate version might appear and chase away these mini SUVs?

I think the mini SUV is here to stay - for a while at least; as long as there is a demand for this current type of vehicle. IMO the mini SUV doesn’t offer that much more over the hatchback counterpart on which it’s usually based, other than perhaps an increased ride height / driving position.

There used to be an estate version of the Seat Ibiza, and the current Skoda Fabia can be bought as an estate. Whether that will continue with next generation models as VAG looks to cut costs and streamline model ranges, who knows.

On the subject of saloon / sedan models, although it’s in the segment above, so not really a small car, I’ve always thought that Audi’s saloon / sedan version of the A3 looks better than either the three or five door hatch version.

All very subjective I know, and there’ll be a number of varying views by forum members and the general car buying / owning public on the visual appeal / practicality of different model variants.

That's because the 5 door Sportback looks less Golf-like hatchback and more estate.
