If you want a new TCR there’s one in the showroom of Breeze VW in Poole Wife’s car was in for a service and had a look round it. Didn’t notice the price but I’m sure they’d do a good deal!

Even with a good discount and 0% finance (if the car in question hasn't been registered yet), there's still about £20k to cover from discounted price down to GFV over 3 years - that's £550 a month inclusive of any deposit you might put down. That is just silly money for a Golf, even if it has 290ps.

Yep. The car is absolutely stunning but it's just way too expensive for a Golf. Think when I was looking in the showroom at the fully spec it was around £40,000.

Might be tempted by a second hand one in a couple of years seeing as the chances of getting a MK8 GTI have gone out the window.

Don’t forget that many of these unsold Golf GTI TCR’s sitting unsold in dealer’s showrooms are likely to have been optioned up quite highly, pushing the list price over £40k. A car with a £40k or more list price attracts the additional annual VED rate of (currently) £320 a year on top of the standard annual flat rate of (currently) £145 for five years from the second time the car is taxed. So, annual road tax of £465 a year from years 2-6 before it reverts back to the lower standard flat rate in year 7.

I doubt they will. VW seems to have largely stopped production of models that sit within the niche segment (Scirocco, Beetle / Beetle cabriolet) to pretty much concentrate on high volume models - building large numbers of standard models will help VW maximise profits, rather than focusing on building niche models such as low volume cabriolets. As the news item states, there wasn’t a cabriolet version of the mk7 / mk7.5 Golf.

I was quite surprised when VW announced a (niche) cabriolet version of the T-Roc, which is expensive, but based on the details in the Autocar news item below, it’s much more than a standard T-Roc with the roof chopped off. It has its own unique body shell, longer wheelbase and lots of extra strengthening to compensate for the lack of a rigid steel roof, which goes some way to explaining higher price compared to the ‘tin top’ version.

Can't say the exterior made much of an impression one way or another - it wouldn't put me off but doesn't fill me with desire either.

Really dislike the move to touchscreen for virtually everything though - interesting to see that the new A3 has retained a few physical buttons for functions such as climate.

On a positive note, it's good to see that a manual gearbox will be available and it would be nice if they'd now offer it on the Polo GTI.
