Thank you Diamond!

Post by Sugar Muppet »

Thought i was facing disater last night, just realised my insurance runs out tommorrow! Got a quote from tescos, up £300 (£1059) on last year dispite going from a 1.2 Punto to a 1.0 polo and one one little bump. anyway,

i phoned a couple of places and obviously everywhere was much cheaper if i didn't have mods. As mum is lending me the money she wanted me to 'stop wasting your time with that car' and go with the cheapest option and loose all my mods

was so fed up i decided to try one more - diamond.

Without mods (fully comp) - 707 (inc roadside recovery)
With mods (fullly comp) - 834 (inc roadside recovery)

But i had a flash of insperation (or i remember reading it somewhere) that if you add an experianced driver to you policy it might bring it down a bit -
so i added my mum 45 years drving, no accidents.

FULLY COMP + MODS + MUMMY = £720 (inc roadside recovery)

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Nice one! It is true that Insurance premiums go down (generally) with a more experienced named driver as the risk is 'shared' amongst the drivers. Norwich Union Direct allow this discount aswel, but they are not too hot on modifications I'm afraid. It depends on what you have got done.

Just thought I'd let you know!!

 go down with a more experience driver

Mine just cost me £1400.04. and it has my mum as a named drive and she actually added £40 (yeah not much but still added to it). And (touch wood) she hasn't had an accident for 15+ years and has full NCB.

Not so bad as ya think compared to others, and i know there are others out there with a harsher deal than me.

(1.2 polo, with "mods but not listed" with insurance company)

Aren't Diamond soley for women? I'm therefore assuming that SugarMuppet, you are female right? If not, it would appear they're pulling the wool over us blokes eyes

Daft question I know, but had to double check.

I was on my mum's insurance for for the past two years, this year it was going to cost £780 but we thought it be best to get it in my name and start my NCB rolling.

I knew Diamond were for women, my gf's with them and she thinks she has a harsh deal  still £400+ less than mine and she's had a decent accident.

I'm with Diamond and they're fantastic. I was originally with Norwich Union Direct but they're a bunch of...anyway. basically my Polo got mashed into by a guy in a Mercedes Sprinter van and he then later claimed it was my fault to get out of paying out so much (even though he drove into the side of me as he didn't look or indicate) Norwich union put my insurance up by 75% as a result and I nearly had to see the polo! Anyway I pay less with Diamond than I did with Norwich union in the first place so that's cool. The only down-side is that Mum is still with the former so I'm not able to drive her Golf TDI on her policy (unless I pay a fortune!) Ah well. :) Yeah, good choice with Diamond.

I change my insurance company or broker every year. I find its the brokers that put the prices up not my insurer sometimes. After leaving a job with a company vehicle i had to get a car and start off from scratch with no ncb. I got a policy with The Insurance Line. £500 it cost me living in stevenage at the time. Moved back up north it went up by £300  . How can they justify that. Anyway when renewal time came they added on another £100. I wasn't gonna pay that so i looked around on the internet. The best deal was the AA. £450 with roadside recovery and all with the insurance company i was already with.

phone me, i work for Kwik-Fit insurance! useless if your under 30 and male but nice and cheap if yr a oldie or a girlie!

Its fact that insurance companies don't like mods, its not that they mite get nicked its the fact that they cost a fortune to replace if they are damaged in a crash same as us males, we don't crash more we just crash better!

So why does having mods affect 3rd party insurance so badly?

basically yeh, havin mods means that your more of a risk because these things are making you go faster i.e. zorst, filter, wheels(grip) suspension all that stuff, just don't tell them  !
