How to look after your car during lockdown

Good afternoon all

I changed my car just over three weeks ago from a Seat Leon 1.4 tsi to a new Vw polo sel with winter pack and style pack in deep pearl black. ( my 4th. VW and third polo ).Car has done just over 100 miles by me and I have not been out in it for over two and a half weeks and my question is how would you look after it during this lockdown perhaps for a few more weeks??

I've filled my tank up to 100% to prevent the fuel from evaporating and causing rust. You can get fuel additives as well that stop the fuel going bad because I think petrol only last a few months.
I make sure to take it out once a week for the food shop so that the tyres arn't sitting in the same position for weeks.

Are'nt these new vehicles sold with a plastic petrol tank these days?

Yes, exactly what I said I was going to do, in fact have now done - GPF regeneration can only be performed in “non power” conditions, meaning that regeneration is normally achieved under deceleration. Deceleration increases the amount of oxygen following through the engine and exhaust system.

I also check my 2018 VW Caddy 1.6 Crewbus, the fuel tank is also plastics.

I think this is the crappiest thing about the Polo.... Not the material which it is made of but the size.
I wish some tuner will come up with a mod of exchanging this little crappy thing for something bigger.
With a range of about 420 km/260 mi on a tank, the dude at the petrol station remembers me by name...

Fully agree with that. The effective range of this Polo HTI is the smallest I've ever known

I get about 600km per full tank of petrol, my 2019 Polo have the 1.6 MPi petrol engine.

Do you have the GTi? And what is your fuel consumption (l/100km)?

I typically got about 280-300 miles per tank (33-35 overall mpg) for a car that officially does 48mpg. That of course was derived from short and longer journeys (no more than 15 miles each way). I'd say this is representative of average use.for most. Prior to the introduction of stop-start tech in 2013 and the false skew that gave the official mpg a 20% boost, I could always achieve the combined mpg figure. With that in mind, 40mpg average was my aim, so about 350 miles a tank expectation.

Since I changed jobs and my commute changed from 13 miles each way to 32 miles, my tank mpg has jumped up to averaging 38mpg. I don't consider it typical.

The GTI should have a bigger tank because it's a thirstier car if you're not doing 30+ mile journeys.

I did once get 37.78mpg

I'm charging the battery every 15 days or so. I needed to do a run a few days, if not I would take the car out the garage to roll the wheels. Also verify the tire pressure to avoid empty tires.

On my new 32 mile each way commute, I'm generally getting 40mpg going and 44mpv coming back, attributing the difference to ambuent temp differences. Best I've had was 53mpg on a 90 mile run back from York to Newcastle, religiously sticking to 70mph. Same trip doing 80mph on A19 was 46mpg.
