Retrofitting USB Hub guide?

Post by Robbo770 »

Hi folks,

so i am attempting to retrofit the D series module USB Hub into my car to provide 2 carplay compatible powered with voltage stabilisation sockets.

so far I have confirmed the original mib2 powered usb cable with the 2 additional wires feed wires supply the required 5 volts and the earth for the red power plug and I will take the last required by a 12 volt jumper from the cigarette socket switched 12 volt feed.

this allows the red plug pins to be connected
Pin 1 12 volts
Pin 2 earth From stereo wires on usb cable (brown I think)
Pin 4 5 volts from wires on usb cable (purple)

So, here is my queries I hope some can help

The connections on the unit are as follows

Green input (believe this can be the original cable rotated 180 degrees from glovebox unit? (Yes / No)

Brown USB 1 Works just as original socket (CarPlay supported)
Purple USB Additional CarPlay / usb socket
BLACK USB3 Power charging only

Does anyone have clarity if the hub allows the output cables to all be the sample type?, can the hub talk to any type sockets or only specific ones....

And lastly It does it need coded in via vdcs to have it seen by the media unit, if so any steps and pics of the screens and code to change available, cheers folks
