Custom leather seats
hello guys. Anyone care to share their Leather seats photos. I bought my Polo R-line in 2019. There was no option to choose leather seats. So I would to get leather seats and, if Possible, change door panels to leather soft material

Re: Custom leather seats
There isn’t a factory option to have for real / full leather seats on any model of the Polo - at least not for the UK market. I’ve not seen anyone on the forum who’s had their seats and door cards re-trimmed in leather - I dare say that would be quite an expensive modification, so probably means very few - if any - owners bother to get this done.Liberator93 wrote: Sat May 30, 2020 8:30 am hello guys. There is an Alcantara option that VW call Art Velours for the seats in some UK models but it’s quite an expensive option to have. (I think you may get this as standard in the Polo GTi in South Africa?). The Art Velours option isn’t available on all models (in the UK you can’t have it in the R-Line) and price varies depending on the model of Polo it’s fitted in; Cheapest in a GTI+ at £1,050 (R22,747) and most expensive in the Match model at £1,360 (R29,463).
Edit; I’ve just done some searching on the internet, and found a UK leather re-trimmer’s website. Their indicative price to re-trim the interior of a car in leather (front and rear seats, door cards and door arm rests) starts at £1,260 (around R27,300) but could be more depending on such things as the quality of leather chosen, any extras such as seat piping, customised stitching etc. So compared to specifying the Art Velours option, getting a basic leather re-trim could cost a similar amount in the UK. Still quite a lot of money and IMO, you’d probably not get much more money (if any) for a Polo with a leather interior when the time comes to sell the car than you would for one with the standard seats.

Re: Custom leather seats
Are they full leather or the Art Velours alcantara seats that are optional in the UK - like the ones in the picture and YouTube video below?;OomStu_ZA wrote: Sat May 30, 2020 1:30 pm i have leather seats but the cars not clean so no photos for now![]()

If they’re real / full leather, I’d be interested in seeing a picture.
Re: Custom leather seats
Ive Seen this polo GTI+ on instagram, the owner has had the original seats re-trimmed in leather with GTI logos Sewn In. imo this should have been an option instead of the art velours, personally I’d probably do the same if I had the original seats as I’m not a fan of the tartan print, however I like the shape of the standard GTI seats and the support they give over the art velours. The part I don’t like about the art velours is the fake grey leather it looks and feels a bit cheap imo also the shape (like standard polo seats). I prefer the optional seats in the previous generation polo gti they look and feel more like real leather.

It is full leather (heated too) but door inserts are plastic:
and
There is no GTI insignia on my seats and Art Velours is standard in ZAR with leather or Clarkson (sic) optional.

Did you have them re-trimmed or is that an optional extra?

Re: Custom leather seats
To be honest VW messed up my order (they delivered my car with that garish red dash insert when i ordred iron metallic) and so the car I received instead had leather speced from factory... would'nt have ticked that box myself but must say I actually prefer the leather seats to the Arty Velvet stuff. At the time of purchase Clarkson wasnt an option from VW either. My Polo has every single factory option except NAV, win win, thanks VW. I only paid for half the extras.

Re: Custom leather seats
@OomStu_ZA; the full leather seats look good. We don’t get that option here in the UK. If we did, it’d no doubt be more expensive than the optional Art Velours alcantara.
@Teee; those re-trimmed GTI seats also look good. I like the red GTI logos.
I’m personally not a fan of the optional Art Velours upholstery. I do like the Jacara Tartan cloth though but it’s good we don’t all like the same things, otherwise life would get boring
. I’ve got the tartan cloth seats in my previous generation GTI and had the grey version in my mk6 Golf GTD.

Re: Custom leather seats
Cloth seats will look better in years to come. I love my art velours but I wish I had the option of the Clark Seats.
Leather needs to be taken care of to keep it looking Matt Black.
Once they become shiny they look old and make the car look old.

Given the choice of cloth or leather, my preference would always be cloth.green justin wrote: Mon Jun 01, 2020 12:32 pm Cloth seats will look better in years to come. I love my art velours but I wish I had the option of the Clark Seats.

Just after I bought my mk6 Golf GTD with tartan cloth seats in 2011, VW included leather seats as standard. It didn’t bother me that I didn’t have leather as I find leather seats uncomfortable to use in hot weather (they get hot and you stick to them!) and the quality of leather used by VW isn’t the best - or it certainly wasn’t back in 2011. There were lots of examples of nearly new low mileage Golfs at the time with leather seats where the leather had become badly creased on the seat cushion side bolsters and saggy on the actual seat cushion, and I’m not a fan of the saggy, creased ‘lived-in’ look. The cloth seats in my GTD looked pretty much as good as new when I sold the car at nearly five years old.
Leather would be easier to clean if anything gets spilled in the car, but I don’t eat or drink in my car so it’s not a big issue for me with cloth seats.

Leather is easier to clean up if you're touching cloth.
