Hey guys
Need your help i have a 2015 VW Polos air con wasnt working so I took it to kwik-fit to re gas the system and worked fine for like 3 weeks.. And now it works sometimes. Like for example.. Sunday morning it worked Sunday afternoon wasn't blowing cool air.. Monday was fine Tuesday was fine and today blowing rubbish air..
I have the small 1 litre engine so visibility under the bonet is good and i cannot see a leak (air con gas has colour right?)
Anyways is there anyone that can help i dont want to go to the dealers and get my trousers pulled down lol
Kind regards
Antony

Refrigerants don't in their virgin state have any colour, what you might see if you are lucky is oil mist which will look like smoke and you will hear a hissing noise at the point of the leak.
If some dye has been added it would show up under UV light, as that is one way to trace leak sites.
I wonder if they have over loaded that system and the AC controller is monitoring the system pressure and if it is loaded beyond the critical design charge weight, especially in hotter weather, the high side running pressure will potentially be higher than normal and because of over charging, too high.
Have you checked that the radiator fan is running okay?
Edit:- I've not thought this out well enough or put it to the test, but, if that car has a gas leak, that system may well only operate on a reduced charge when the weather is extremely warm as there will be more heat load going into the system and so keeping its pressure up high to continue running - that is opposed to having too high a charge which is more likely to work under lower heat loading situations. That is just a sort of informed guess, which is never a good idea!

Re: Aircon on and off problems
Sounds to me like something other than the gas pressure, 'not working sunday but monday ok' would indicate that the gas is ok as the compressor only kicks in if pressure is ok (assuming you can hear the comp click when it activates?)
Might also be worth having a look at the a/c sensors and wiring as they might be the problem
Not sure if these cars have a temp gauge for ambient temp that influences the air con (audi do)but I would be researching that to see if it could be the problem.
Depending where you are but it might be worth getting a mobile air con specialist to give a check over, they are a lot cheaper than the dealer, and found the fault for me in quick time.
Hope that helps and good luck

Thanks for your ideas guys...
I think ill try the mobile air con experts see if they can find something

I think that that will be a good plan, mobile air con guys will know their stuff and will fit their fridge manifold to your AC system and see what is happening while it is operating on load.F17ANT wrote: Sat Jun 27, 2020 11:47 am Thanks for your ideas guys...

Re: Aircon on and off problems
There will be an ambient air temperature sensor, but the AC system will only use that to protect itself in colder weather, to avoid icing up the evaporator. The built in pressure sensor, will also only protect the AC system from damage due to too low or too high a running pressure and that sensor will also control when the condenser cooling fan operates. There is a sensor in the evaporator to prevent too much liquid passing it - that can fail and inhibit the AC chiller, cabin fan must be flowing air through the evaporator for the AC chiller to operate. There will also be a sun light sensor to assist in controller the cabin temperature.rivatt wrote: Sat Jun 27, 2020 11:23 am Sounds to me like something other than the gas pressure, 'not working sunday but monday ok' would indicate that the gas is ok as the compressor only kicks in if pressure is ok (assuming you can hear the comp click when it activates?)
