Re: Used GTI+ OR Brand New R-Line (Fully Specced)
Between the cars I think it comes down to cost of each car and how long you're prepared to wait for the car to arrive. I waited 21 weeks for my GTI+ with black pack, winter pack and rev camera on it and I paid a little over £18k after discounts thanks to good deals and a good relationship with my local dealer.
I pay a little over £250 a month PCP for my GTI+ with a lot of good kit as standard way more then I need for the 40miles I do a day and I would imagine a fully specc'd R-Line on PCP will cost more than a GTI+ with some goodies on it but that would be if the GTI+ is brand new due to PCP taking into account residuals and a new GTI+ PCP will be much lower then a nearly new used one. But if you were to get a new one with the whole Covid situation right now you may be looking at a few more months on top of what you would be waiting for the R-Line to take delivery. Due to your age too insurance should be considered, I paid £600 and i'm 21 thanks to the safety systems but as you said before with your points on your license it may make the R-Line more justified.
I suppose it comes down to a balance of cost and patience... or it would with me anyway.

£18k for a new GTI+ with a few options? What is your special relationship? Is your wife/girlfriend the sales manager? That's about double the drivethedeal discount.stuartrendall wrote: Wed Jul 01, 2020 5:07 pm Between the cars I think it comes down to cost of each car and how long you're prepared to wait for the car to arrive. Re: Used GTI+ OR Brand New R-Line (Fully Specced)
Maybe do a quick internet search of autotrader and dealers and see what cars they have in stock for immediate delivery?
A bit of compromise on colour and spec goes along way too, especially if you don’t want to wait for one to be built, I’ve bought 7 new cars in total and never had one ordered from factory, always been stock cars. I only ever have 2 rules.
1) Must not be black, yellow or pink
2) Must not have a sunroof

Re: Used GTI+ OR Brand New R-Line (Fully Specced)
Actually I think that "rear view camera" is becoming an EU mandated must have like TPMS is by the end of this year, so that will be another option gone, I'm just adding that as it was mentioned, nothing more.
Maybe the next big buy after getting your first job could be a place to live, so buying a car that you are willing to keep for longer than a few years would free up cash for a deposit and mortgage - boring I know, but that is how things pan out for many people.
I was very keen to own a "good" car as soon as possible after starting work, but I put having that to one side until we got married and bought our first house and so bought a house of the size and location that we could have lived in "for ever" and then worked my way up the ranks cars wise, again boring but that was/is what a lot of people do.

Re: Used GTI+ OR Brand New R-Line (Fully Specced)
I'm not sure what their break even is to be honest but i've always gone to the same dealer during my 3 years of driving and VW ownership. During that time they have destroyed my gearbox, wiring loom, paint work and dented my old car. I went through a whole legal case with them and they settled it by paying for all their damage and a little compensation and I also have a video of them driving a customers car into a wall after a tech slipped the clutch pedal and I suppose they just dont want that sort of thing reaching the publicity and after showing it the the workshop manager he was also keen on it being kept secret. All in all the time i've spent in and out the dealer i've gotten to know the people well so I guess it has somewhat paid off.Ima wrote: Wed Jul 01, 2020 7:22 pm Surely they sold the car then at a loss to keep you sweet. Ermmm I wouldn’t call that a good relationship at all! I’d be avoiding that dealer at all costs.

So it's almost like implied intent to blackmail?stuartrendall wrote: Wed Jul 01, 2020 7:05 pm

If they give you about 28% discount then there's no profit in it for them.
Basic dealership margin is 5%, there's about 10% tied to customer satisfaction score (which is why your salesperson always begs for a good satisfaction survey response) and about 15% max tied to volume discount tiers.
So a dealership with happy customers and a huge turnover of cars gets about 30% off list. That came straight from a salesman at Pulman I used to get my cars from. The larger "rep-mobile" cars sold through fleet are on a different discounting structure.

I'm not sure how it works to be honest with you but I remember looking for deals on the Golf R and Polo GTI+ on carwow, called the dealer to ask for a test drive and showed them my carwow offers and they came up with that price which included their deposit too. I'm not sure what other deals others have had but that is what is on my finance papers. Cars full value is about £18,800.monkeyhanger wrote: Wed Jul 01, 2020 7:54 pmSo it's almost like implied intent to blackmail?stuartrendall wrote: Wed Jul 01, 2020 7:05 pm

At least in Portugal the 115 option isn't avaliable for some months and the GTi just reaper some weeks ago.
Re: Used GTI+ OR Brand New R-Line (Fully Specced)
Hi,
One further question. We also need to know if the price you have been quoted for the new R-Line by the dealer includes any discount as it really looks like they are stitching you up with zero or small discount. As others have said, look at Carwow and build the GTI + and R-Line so you have a discounted priced to negotiate. Then use site like webuyanycar to get an idea what your car is worth - sites like this will give a price, but on the day will reduce this for every dent, scratch or minor imperfections.
The figure you need to use for the deal is the cost to change, as the dealer will over inflate your PX and reduce the discount or the other way round! Also be very careful they don’t add extras like gap, and paint protection in the quote, as that is a sneaky way to mash the price to make it look like a bargain saying you get all these wonderful extras. They are not!
Good luck.

VW also have a part exchange valuation tool on their website - just requires the input of registration number and mileage;

I think we've scared him off, or he's off to sort his desler out.

I’m just trying to collect all the information together provided from you all. I’m a bit overwhelmed with it all, and to say I’ve got the car on order there’s a time limit on having it all sorted because if it so happens I can cancel then I don’t want to leave it too late.
I’m currently out right now but keep having a little peak at my phone for your guys responses which are ridiculously helpful, thanks guys I’ll report back with what I do.
