Cost of first service
Cost of first service
Hi all,
Car is due for its first service, just coming up to a year old. What sort of price should I expect to pay, ive had a tentative price from a main dealer of £185, does that seem about right?
I’ve not paid for the servicing up fron if that helps.
Cheers,
Simmo

Re: Cost of first service
Here in South Africa the first 3 services (15k, 30k and 45k) are included for free. That means one only starts paying for a service once the vehicle reaches 60 000 KM's (37282,272 Miles) which is classed "major service" by VWSA and costs around R3500.00 or ±164.79 GBP.

Re: Cost of first service
£184 sounds about right. That’s the price VW are showing on their website for a minor service for cars over three years old, but I doubt the cost of a first service will be much - if any - different to that price.
Hindsight’s a wonderful thing but it would have been cheaper to have bought the service pack when you bought the car (assuming you bought it new)- you’d have got the first two services for £199.

Re: Cost of first service
184 Pounds sounds like a lot of money for the first service considering its only oil and filters that are changed.
The first service here in SA (although free) has a value of approx. 100 Pounds.

Thanks for the feedback guys, much appreciated.
SRGTD, you’re right, I should have paid for the service pack up front - expensive mistake

Unless they've changed their terms very recently, get onto VWFS and buy a service pack for £299. That'll cover your first (minor) and second (major) service. You can only buy while your car is less than a year old. You can even spread out the payments over as many months as would take you to your second service - without interest.
It would've been £199 if bought with your car.

I’ll have a look into that monkeyhanger, it’ll save me a few quid if I can buy it now - thanks you for the advice, appreciate it.

Re: Cost of first service
I know this £199 service plan has been mentioned before, but how do you go about getting it? There is an option to buy 2 years of servicing on the configurator when you start but its £297.SRGTD wrote: Mon Jul 06, 2020 3:49 pm £184 sounds about right. If you didn't buy it with the car (optioned prior to the car being registered), you can no longer get it for £199. If your car is under a year old and hasn't been serviced yet, you can buy it for £297 o and they'll let you pay outright or pay £16.50 a month for 18 months (£297 total). Do bear in mind that to buy seperately at VW dealer rates will cost you over £400, probably closer to £450 because the second service involves changing the pollen filter and kicking the tyres (among other checks), so a little dearer than teh first service (which is just an oil and filter change).PhilArnold wrote: Mon Jul 06, 2020 5:33 pmI know this £199 service plan has been mentioned before, but how do you go about getting it? I haven't taken delivery yet (mine's still stuck in emden) so was just looking at what I had to do to secure that price. Is it through the dealer or somewhere else you have to call?monkeyhanger wrote: Mon Jul 06, 2020 5:49 pmIf you didn't buy it with the car (optioned prior to the car being registered), you can no longer get it for £199. Re: Cost of first service
Get the dealer to do it. Tell them you want the £199 service pack. They need to get it arranged before the car is registered,PhilArnold wrote: Mon Jul 06, 2020 5:55 pmI haven't taken delivery yet (mine's still stuck in emden) so was just looking at what I had to do to secure that price. Re: Cost of first service
As a couple of chaps have mentioned, when you’re dealer contacts you to have your finance paperwork signed, make sure you buy the service pack at that point.
You’ll get two choices. 1) £199 up front 2) attach the cost to your pcp plan and spread the cost over twelve months.
You’re saving 50% on service costs by doing that.
