Wanted a supermini sized car, as parking spaces seem to be getting smaller. Also P/X car was a diesel, now verboten (or nearly) in Bristol and Westminster.
When the Hyundy dealers finally opened again they were swamped with demand, and there were no i20's in the local showroom.
I've owned two Golfs previous so figured a Polo was a safe bet without a test drive, barged into the VW dealer without an appointment and demanded they sold me a car. They had two Match 95's on short order, so plumped for a Limestone grey. Should be here next week.
What they didn't have was anything with the 115 PS engine, so 95 Pferdestärke will have to do.
Saleman said they were inundated with new car orders on all models, so was quite lucky not to have to wait for the factory. Also there was quite a lot of pressure to take a PCP plus GAP insurance and the Lifeshine malarky for £400. Took several 'no thanks' to get past those.
Dealer suprised I wanted to pay cash! Kept pointing out the £2000 deposit contribution for PCP. I pointed out that a PCP cost me £1000 in interest and limited me to 10,000 miles a year, whereas cash didn't, which was politely ignored.
Settled on a service pack to shut him up but not quite sure what I've bought for £10 a month.
Didn't get any discount on the Polo but we haggled over the P/X price of my old car and got within £300 of the VW online trade-in price, which was fine.(Toyota offered £800 more online but couldn't get a prompt appointment at the local dealer. Hyundai were £500 less than VW but didn't have any cars.)
So, the long wait drags on. Looking forwards to the new car.
One question: Phone holders. What do you use and where do you stick it? I like to keep them off the windscreen if possible. Phone is an el cheaps Moto G7.
Danke sehr.
