Gti launch control
Gti launch control
Hi
Not sure if it’s an issue but when I launch my gti when I release the brake it jumps to 4000rpm then drops back down to just above 3000 rpm then pulls but all The videos on YouTube Rev out to 6000 rpm straight away when the brake is released and what everyone’s best time got mine to 6.1
Thanks

Re: Gti launch control
I did it once and will not try again. Bad idea and not very comfortable without 4x4 and so much power on the front wheels (in my case at least 245 hp)

I may be wrong, but I thought I read somewhere that if you had engine issues and they found you had used launch control more than a couple of times, it invalidated your warranty. Like I said, I may be wrong but I could swear it was the polo gti.

Re: Gti launch control
It does beg the question why build launch control into a car if using this manufacturer designed function - if used - could potentially void the warranty? If there are any limitations on the use of launch control, they IMO they should be clearly outlined in a prominent position in the owner’s manual (maybe they are?), so the owner is aware of the implications of launching too many times.lancslad1985 wrote: Mon Aug 03, 2020 6:36 am I may be wrong, but I thought I read somewhere that if you had engine issues and they found you had used launch control more than a couple of times, it invalidated your warranty. Having said that, I wouldn’t use it - can’t see the point personally. That’s just my opinion though.

Re: Gti launch control
Never used launch control, never fancied sitting at the lights holding 4000 revs.
Someone on an Audi forum found evidence of a launch control counter that allowed 200. Never heard of anyone
refused warranty on a gearbox for using launch control.
The handbook mentions how to do launch control but don't think it mentions invalidating warranty in use.
The way the DSG normally feathers the gears in to preserve the clutches and aid smoothness of gear change, it's not much of a stretch to imagine VW refusing warranty on gearbox issues if you launch all the time.
Waste of time with the Polo's 2WD traction and tramping, especially if you're on Bridgestone tyres.

Re: Gti launch control
No warranty limitation from using launch control. Here’s a copy of post covering this from Golf R forum
“it's a myth about the warranty and launch limit, I submitted a case to VWUK and specifically asked them to confirm with their technical department that the launch limit was a myth, they phoned me back a week or so later and confirmed it was simply not true and there was no limit threshold that would affect warranty.
I asked for a hard copy as proof of conversation which they duly sent once their legal department had scrutinised it (I said I would be posting it on forums as an official VW response on the matter):

That letter has to be a fake. It's not the content I disbelieve, it's the fact VW UK were seemingly helpful that I'm struggling to believe!
They make great cars but customer service and warranty coverage is crap!

It was four years ago though, and VW’s approach to customer service has no doubt changed since then - and not for the better.monkeyhanger wrote: Mon Aug 03, 2020 9:39 am That letter has to be a fake. If you asked the same question now, they probably wouldn’t even bother responding!

Re: Gti launch control
You’re right it has been a long time so I’ve emailed customer services for an up to date definitive on the launch control question for the Polo Gti rather than Golf. Better safe than sorry and interesting to see if I get the same support as the Golf R person did 4 years ago
I have said I wish to share their reply on this forum as reassurance on using the feature for those that wish to so I’ll let the group know how I get on.

Good to hear. Couldn’t remember where I’d read it but hopefully I’m proved wrong. I’d give it a go one time.

Re: Gti launch control
Well I’m sensible then with you
I spend 98% of time in stop start traffic and with a dodgy knee and I don’t go track driving so I’m happy to forgo the manual ‘enjoyment’ for the 2% of driving where a manual would be worth having. Saying that as I’ve never had a car with launch control I’ll have to try it once on a private road and then likely never bother again.

Re: Gti launch control
I also have a dodgy knee and spend ages in stop start traffic so it had to be an auto! To be honest I won’t miss the manual, you can still flick it into manual and use the paddles for a bit of fun.Ima wrote: Mon Aug 03, 2020 7:02 pm Well I’m sensible then with youI spend 98% of time in stop start traffic and with a dodgy knee and I don’t go track driving so I’m happy to forgo the manual ‘enjoyment’ for the 2% of driving where a manual would be worth having. Well what a surprise. A stock reply that didn’t in any way answer the question I asked. Hopeless as expected. Definitely not like 2016
Dear Ima
Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding issues with your vehicle being covered under warranty.
In order for us to be able to comment upon the causes of the issue and to further investigate your concerns, a diagnosis would need to be carried out by a Volkswagen Retailer. They will be able to determine if the issue which you have experienced can be covered under the terms of the Manufacturer’s Warranty. Volkswagen Customer Services have no influence over any warranty decision and the decision would be entirely down to the retailer. Contact details for all Volkswagen Retailers can be found via the link below:
