What is "G13 PLUS+" Coolant???
Hello,
I go to the local VW dealer today to buy some coolant, and they give me this "G13 PLUS+" coolant.
Anyone seen this "G13 PLUS+" coolant before?
Is there any difference between "G13 PLUS+" and "G13" coolant?
Thanks.

Wow compatible with G11, G12, G12PLUS - no mention of G12PLUS PLUS or G13 or G12 evo, curious, strange or just an omission?
It all adds up into the bundle of "which" "where" and "why" questions covering VW Group coolant concentrates.

It seems like no one seen this coolant before.
To be safe, I will flush the cooling system with distilled water a few times, before putting this coolant into my car.

Re: What is "G13 PLUS+" Coolant???
I was given G13 coolant by VW.
Don’t add distilled water! Only coolant !
Distilled water is for emergencies when you don’t have access to coolant.

Nowhere on my G13 container does it state using it neat, it depicts the coolant to water ratios as follows.....2:3 -24C,
1:1 -36C and 3:2 -52C. The older G11 & G12 had similar ratios. I have always used a ratio of 1:1, both when changing the coolant and the very very infrequent top ups. I use tap water which in my area is very soft and have never had a problem with this ratio in both a VW Golf & a VW Bora that I owned for 21 & 19 years respectively.

That advice is only correct if you have bought "coolant", if you had bought "coolant additive" then it would need mixed with water.green justin wrote: ↑Sat Aug 15, 2020 8:31 pm I was given G13 coolant by VW.

Exactly, same here 1:1 with local soft tap water.john M wrote: ↑Sat Aug 15, 2020 8:57 pm Nowhere on my G13 container does it state using it neat, it depicts the coolant to water ratios as follows.....2:3 -24C,

Remember the topic here is "what is G13 PLUS+" - and the OP picture was of coolant additive, ie conc.
Re: What is "G13 PLUS+" Coolant???
I rang my friendly VW dealer and they hadn't heard of this G13+, they also informed me that when they order G13 they are now supplied with G12 Evo which is pre mixed with protection to -35C so is this another way of getting some extra revenue by adding a drop of water to G13 (or whatever you are having yourself). I have seen references to G12+ and G12++, also that G13 is glycerine based vs previously used glycol. I originally thought that changing the recipe (apart from any environment issues) was because of the different alloys evolving with engine development etc.

I live in South Africa, maybe this G13 PLUS+ coolant is only for the local South Africa market.
(A coolant that is suitable for the South Africa climate.)
So, G12 Evo don't come in concentrated solution?
Did your dealer mention if we can mix G13 and G12 Evo together?
Thanks.

Re: What is "G13 PLUS+" Coolant???
Personally I'd doubt that it is ZA only, I don't think that is the way large car suppliers work, there will be zones elsewhere in the world and maybe even including Europe where the climate will be similar, maybe South Africa is one of the first sales territories that it is being introduced into first.ho8882000 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 3:17 pm Thanks for the information.

I agree with you on this, it doesn't make sense that they develop this G13 PLUS+ coolant and only sell it in South Africa.
I think slowly other countries will also see this G13 PLUS+ coolant.
(This G13 PLUS+ is cheap, about £4.5 for 1L. And it is a concentrated coolant (coolant additive), not the premix coolant.)
I asked the same question on the Ross Tech forum, a guy who just left VW 6 months ago also said he never seen this G13 PLUS+ coolant before.
So, this G13 PLUS+ could be something that is been introduced recently.

Re: What is "G13 PLUS+" Coolant???
I wonder why they named it PLUS+, that seems a different way of doing things, "PLUS" I can understand as well as "+" which is typically replaced with "++", strange or maybe they did that to cover more languages easier so "PLUS+" is equivalent to "PLUS/+" - time might tell.
Edit:- usually looking on the website for the manufacturer of the base product, ie BASF or even www.glysantin.de directly, reveals all the available "brews" with their accompanying G11, ----- ect names. Well at least BASF's G numbering system for the base brew.
Another edit:- I had considered that another spec would have been quoted on that bottle like TL- ??? - ?, but I've just checked on a bottle of G12plus and G13 from VW Group and they don't have any reference to any TL - ??? - ? or TL - 744 - L quoted on them. The table of specs I looked at on that GLYSANTIN website claims to be correct as at 16-08-2020 - okay maybe there is another manufacturer other than BASF.

Re: What is "G13 PLUS+" Coolant???
Yet another posting on this, I have a bottle of G12PLUS and a bottle of G13, both these bottles are 1.5litres and the final 2 identifiers of these bottles is M1 which will be VW Group's method to make the capacity and form of the bottle part of the part number - they are both rectangular in section.
In the case of this bottle of G13PLUS + the last 2 identifiers are T1 which could conveniently be VW Group's method of describing a 1.0litre bottle which is round in section.
My VW Group G13 has the part number G013 A8J M1, my similar VW Group bottle of G12PLUS has the part number G012 A8F M1 both in rectangular section 1.5litre plastic bottles. OP's VW Group G13PLUS+ has the part number G013 A8J T1.
Going by that, if any of my logic is correct, then your G13PLUS+ looks to be the same as my G13 - but that does nothing to explain why one is called G13 and the other is called G13PLUS+.
Lots of this will be of absolutely no interest to most people that are running a current version of Polo, but anyone with an earlier VW Group car and already slightly confused over issues like "mit silikat" or no silicate vessel within their coolant reservoir, might consider this is yet another change - but why and which cars really need this at coolant change time.
