So there are two car carrying vessels (City of Rotterdam and Malacca Highway) currently travelling from Emden to Grimsby, which means there’s a good chance cars dropped off by Golvis Century at Emden yesterday might be on one of these two vessels.
Very good chance. Unfortunately my car is most likely supposed to be going sheerness so I doubt I’m in luck!

I've given my salesman the benefit of the doubt and contacted him yesterday at 6:30pm in regards to telling me where my car is located and the potential next ship it is on. Granted, he had stayed over his usual working hours so he said he'd contact me at 9:30am today - no phone call as expected. Contacted him now and he has literally no idea where the car is located because he spoke to a woman who checks and she supposedly said that the spreadsheets that get uploaded haven't been uploaded to say where the car is located.

He literally asked, why do you need to know what boat your car is on? I mean is it not obvious... I want to know where the hell my car is located.

I have an awful feeling that now the car is having to switch ships at Emden (I don't even think he knew my car was at Emden), I am practically blindfolded from now until the car reaches the dealership because he is supposedly going to contact me if he gets any updates... but I've heard that saying before and I've not been contacted throughout the whole process of me ordering the car.

Not happy at all.

Following up on this, I have contacted Live Chat.

I feel as though Live Chat and my dealership should be reversed because Live Chat provides me with way more information than my actual dealership.

The advisor had told me that my car is located in Emden, Germany and is awaiting a ship to be allocated - until then it could take up to two weeks to be allocated a ship. Including the two week time at Emden, the vehicle will be on the ship up to a few working days, then once it has arrived at the UK port of entry it can take a week to be allocated a transportation to your selling Retailer. Once it has arrived at your selling Retailer, they will need to perform the pre-delivery inspection prior to hand over this to you.

All I got from the dealership was "I don't know where your car is", "Why do you need to know what boat your car is on" and "I'll update you when I can".

Looks like another 2 weeks wait for a ship. :x

That’s pretty poor service from your sales rep.....got the sale and then not that bothered by the sounds of it.
Personally I’d email my rep and copy in the sales manager. Keep it polite. I’d be amazed if you didn’t get a response then!

I think after waiting months for your order the sales reps should be a little more understanding.

The comment about uploading a spreadsheet made me chuckle. Really? In this day and age, a manual spreadsheet!

The live chat answer is the stock response I suspect. 2 weeks in Emden. If our cars weren’t on the two just left yesterday for Grimsby (for those Grimsby bound) then it’s just a case of waiting. Could easily be a week, as we need a ship to come back to do another run....

What we don’t know is if due to COVID there is a backlog or reduced service? Anywone?

Tom, most car salespeople have very little interest in the products they’re selling. They‘re also unlikely to understand why some people are car enthusiasts - as many people on this forum (and other forums) are - and why these enthusiasts like to know the progress of their car’s journey to the dealership and when they can expect to take delivery.

Based on what VWCS have told you, it looks as if you could expect to take delivery of your car around mid September. That’s consistent with the ‘up to eight weeks’ journey time from VW’s Uitenhage factory in South Africa to the UK dealer that seems to be the norm (although if you’re lucky and your car’s in the right place at the right time, a 6 week journey time).

In your position, I’d be making a diary note to contact the dealer around the end of the first week in September if they’ve not contacted you in the interim (unlikely from what you’ve said). Hopefully your car will be in the UK by then, and possibly at the dealers and prepped for handover to you. If not, then you’d hope they’ll have some information on when they expect to receive it, and more importantly, when you’ll be able to take delivery.

I think you need to expect a 2-4 week wait in emden from boat arrival to loading on a uk bound boat.
That's what I've experienced and I think this is indicative for others on here. I know there were a few that got a cycle time of 3 days but i think they got very lucky.
Glovis century has only just departed today and so some of the cars may have only just gotten offloaded

I would expect delivery into the UK around w/c 7th Sept and then a further 1-2 weeks whilst it makes it way on a car transporter to the dealership

Good points, most will not be car enthusiasts or even have any interest in the product, just selling them and moving on to the next product / sale. Could be easily just selling washing machines. It's at odds with the keen interest of enthusiasts who have spent hours researching the purchase and who want to get the most from their experience and ownership. It does seem like the cars are pretty close to UK soil and won't be long from collection. I would concentrate on the handover and collection process and getting a checklist together to make sure no mistakes / missed things on the day - it's easy to forget stuff of miss any minor defects that need highlighting to the dealer. Others on here will have suggestions, some past posts on the subject. Then once it's home the next step is detailing / inspection and setting up all the tech where the fun begins! I'm sympathetic it does seem very frustrating.

Completely agree. Find it hard to comprehend that somebody that is selling a car doesn't understand why I would want to track the ship my car is on after I've been waiting so long for it. You'd think if you're selling something and in order to be good at selling it, you must have some sort of passion and interest in that said product... but hey it is what it is.

I have however, had a phone call just now confirming that my car has touched-down in Germany. Hopefully that means that the car is lined up awaiting it's next ship and will be boarding the next one that ports at Emden.

Afternoon Guys

I appear to be in a similar boat to you guys. Getting really frustrated waiting on my Polo Gti+ now since February when I ordered.
Found out today that it arrived in Emden yesterday (Monday 17th) from Port Elizabeth, and it needs to get to VW in Barnsley 🤷‍♂️, just hoping it arrives quick,
Does anyone reckon there is a chance mine managed to get on the boat to Grimsby yesterday, I hope so.

Thanks for all the information from everyone I will keep an eye out.

For those hoping that their cars might get off one boat and on to another in a matter of days, I’d say you’d be very lucky for this to happen.

Mine arrived in Emden during the last week of July. From what my dealer tells me, it should either have now just arrived in UK or be on it’s way very shortly.

So from my experience I’d say you’re likely looking at it been 2/3 weeks in Emden.

Not to be a spoilsport, but it seems mine was quick sitting in emden for a week at the end of July. I hope I’m wrong for your sakes, but I’d be surprised if it’s unloaded from South Africa straight onto another boat, but it’s possible!

All I can say is it’s been worth the wait for the car. I love this car and couldn’t be happier.

Seems there is a few of us with cars at Emden that arrived on the Glovis Century earlier this week. Interesting to see how long before at least one of us gets an idea of time to the UK.

I waited a week in 2018 and that seemed long as I hit May bank holiday in Germany with them apparently closed for two days. There were others with around a 3 day turnaround to the UK. Clearly things have changed since then....

I know it's been said before but VW's tracking system is just nuts, I'd love to know how it actually works

City of Rotterdam has departed Grimsby this morning and I've only now just gotten the 5C "near the UK" text, surely this should have been status 6 "arrived in the UK"?

I’ve just received my ‘on the way’ to the UK. Unsure of which boat I am on though as none are currently on the way to sheerness. Maybe mine has for some reason gone to Grimsby? It isn’t at Grimsby is it or is it on the way?

I've just noticed City of Rotterdam has just departed Grimsby too. Supposed to be arriving at 9:00pm today. I wonder if it'll end up picking up the majority of Glovis Century's drop offs and do another trip to Grimsby.

I do think though that the updates are strangely behind and inaccurate. I'm sure that the Glovis Century dropped the majority of ours car to Emden on Sunday or Monday. Yet, I called yesterday in the morning and because some "spreadsheets" hadn't been published it meant that the dealership had "no idea" where my car was located... does that mean it could have made its way to Australia and they wouldn't have known? Nonetheless, I had a call yesterday at around 5:30pm from my dealership claiming that my car has just arrived in Germany. So to go off of that, I'd say that the app and dealership are always going to be 1 or 2 days behind so it could be possible that your car could be already in the UK. Fingers crossed!

In matter of fact, just checked... and City of Rotterdam is expected back at Emden on Aug 19th at 21:00 and Malacca Highway is expected back to Emden on 20th at 08:00. This could be good news.
