Hi
Recently replaced the 2018 SE with a 2020 Match 95ps. It is fitted with standard 15 inch wheels, Goodyear Efficient Grip tyres. I've noticed there is lots of tyre roar on the motorway coming from the passenger side, it changes depending on the type of road surface. Very noisy, didn't notice this on the old model. Its almost like there is some sound deadening missing or a gap in the footwell. Unless these tyres are particularly noisy - they do have a bulky looking tread pattern. Could be a faulty tyre, they are made in Poland and probably cheap knowing VW...Spoils the car really as the engine is silent just the roaring noise from the road surface. Anyone else noticed this?

Re: Loud tyre noise front wheel
Tread pattern is where the noise comes from on any tyre, it's caused by air being squeezed out under pressure through the tread.
The bigger the gaps in the tread, the more the noise, so a winter tyre with big gaps to clear the snow = more noise.
If you get the dealer to rule out missing sound insulation etc., then the next thing is to try different tyres.
You'd have to be mega friendly or pushy with your dealer to try that though.

@Simoniz, Alternatively rather than trying different tyres, you could ask the dealer if you could drive another Polo Match 95ps with the same tyres as your car to see if it makes the same road noise. If it does, then you’ll know it’s a characteristic of the tyres, or some other characteristic that’s common to the Polo Match 95ps model.
Don’t know how receptive your dealer would be to you taking out another car to compare to your own during lockdown though.

Cheers thanks for the replies. It might just be my imagination, often you do imagine some things with cars but they are all slightly different - I noticed on this 2020 model slight differences to the 2018 spec. One being they have deleted the twin horns and replaced with a weedy single tone
Saved them 50 cents...
VW probably mess about with suppliers and spec so after a couple of years things like sound insulation, carpets and fittings are slightly different (cheaper).
Might just stuff some old tea towels in the front arch trims to block the noise out...can't be bothered with trips to dealers as they normally fob you off with nothing wrong it's a 'characteristic' - e.g. the mooing noise saga.
On a positive the handbrake cable is fine, they must have sorted that one out at the factory finally!

TBH I've no idea if my car even has a horn, it's just something I never use.Simonz wrote: Thu Jan 07, 2021 4:16 pm Cheers thanks for the replies. I'm assuming you're not serious about the towels

Horn is seldom used - sometimes nice to blast it when driving in a tunnel to relieve the boredom...(well a dual tone). Rarely use it in traffic, not like some Mediterranean drivers it seems somehow wrong!

I'm of an age where I remember 'Paddy Hopkirk' selling stick on sound deadening for your car.
When only luxury cars had it but you wanted it in your Avenger/Escort/Cortina.
