Winterising and winter wheels and tyres

Post by Wakatuki »

Evening all,
As winter approaches and my wife's Polo R-Line 110 feels livelier than ever as it heads towards 1Yr and 6k miles.
With the impending winter I want her to be as safe as possible (and the Polo!). The Bonneville 17" alloys took some real maintenance last year and keeping the salt away was a nightmare, I've also not feel the supplied tyres are too grippy in under acceleration when I drove last weekend in all the rain,(fine in the sun and warmth) I know they recommend dropping to winter pressures but I think I'd prefer a winter set of wheels and all season or winter tyres.
I'm happy to sit it on cheap 15"steel wheels for the winter, is there any reason they won't fit?
I'm going to upgrade the wipers from factory as they started to squeak despite cleaning them and the screen regularly. Bosch Aero seem to be the recommendations I read on here, correct?
Does anyone else's Polo have a delay, about 2 seconds between washer request and water arriving at the jets (no leaks observed), any fix, one way valve was my thought but worried if its an anti freezing thing?
And finally, software update requested on media system, are these free at the dealership in the UK (purchased Jan 2021)?

Many thanks,

Any wheels with the right stud pattern and ET will fit.
Yes, Bosch aerotwin wipers.
Yes, the 2 second delay between asking for screenwash and getting any is completely normal and yes it is annoying.
Both our other cars (Evoque and Leaf) give you instant water.
Be wary of the media update, we got one at the dealer and it's ruined bluetooth and apple play (see my post from earlier today)

Cheers for the quick response, sooo annoying the delay and so easy to engineer out.
Thanks for the advice on the media update, I'll go read it now.
