Yet another issue I have facepalm this is technically not VWs fault but VW will cover it and have identified that I’ve got a torn CV boot, on the front passenger side next to the wheel. I have been hearing a grinding noise every time I turn sharp left or right while accelerating and that is what they found. They are replacing the CV boot under warranty but my fear is since the grinding noise is already occurring that means significant wear may have occurred. If so, is this covered under the warranty?
As an individual part, I'd expect that they will be covered, but in your case it does sound a lot like that cover/gaitor got torn due to that car being driven over something, so that damage would not normally get covered, but it does seem like they were happy to sort that joint out and replace the grease and gaitor.
Which probably means that by default, that joint will continue to have a full 3 year warranty.
My wife's 2015 VW Polo 1.2TSI ended up with a nasty on/off power rubbery clunking which I had read was due to VW fitting 1.2TSI engined cars with the NA petrol engined cars version of gearbox mounting instead of the heavier duty TDI version. So it was submitted for repair under warranty, they discovered a torn lower track control arm or wishbone rear mounting bush so replaced that and the strut top mounting on the same side - now I would always consider a torn rear wishbone mounting bush as being excluded from warranty due it its failure normally being down to shocking road surface conditions, which are not really VW Group's fault, so I was surprised to find that they replaced that FOC! That did nothing for the rubbery clunking I continued to hear so eventually they gave in and replaced the gearbox mounting and fitted the TDI version in its place, problem solved!
Thanks for getting back, they replaced the CV boot but the car still makes a howling noise when turning left or right so I think it could be the wheel bearing as the classic clicking sound doesn’t happen.
