Hi folks.
Ordered a new Polo GTI in white last month. Added reversing camera, heated seats, 18in wheels and spare wheel.
The only downside is the estimated delivery time of 8/9 months. It currently says "week 26" build week and delivery by 30th November (I'm assuming that's "this" year!). Though pretty sure these are just "place holder" dates (IE. they don't really know yet). Lets hope its not more than 12 months! as that's when my current PCP finishes. Not quite sure what the options would be then? Especially as my current car (Hyundai I30N) obviously isn't a VW! Don't want to have to buy my current car out, just want to PX it as usual.
Only managed £500 off and the £750 for taking the VW PCP. But better than nothing. My current car would appear to have a fair bit of + equity in it (due to the over heated 2nd hand car market), so that's my deposit sorted. The garage says that it will hold the deal (price/interest rate etc.) until the new car comes, sounds fair to me.
Previous few cars have been.... I30N, Focus ST mk3.5 x 2 (one red and the second one yellow), RS Clio EDC and on backwards in time via many other motors and three different Scoobies in the 90'sand further back in time to one of my first cars, an Alfasud. Far too many cars to remember them all.
Fancied something a bit less extreme this time round, due to the deteriorating roads round here and the I30N (even on the "softest" of suspension settings) is a pretty firm car (much more so than the Focus ST). Plus it's pretty heavy on fuel. Nice car to drive though and the exhaust especially always makes me smile (the inner child).
Also fancied trying another car with a dual clutch box. The one in the Clio was no where near as bad as a lot of the press reviews made it out. It just needed a bit more work on it, which it actually got in later models.
Tried one of the early mk6 GTI's when it came out and seriously thought about it. But was put off by the number of things that were "options", when on many cars they were standard fit. The face lifted mk6 GTI looks to be a decent spec now (DCC, climate control, SatNav etc. now standard). Plus I think the body work tweaks have sharpened the looks up. And glad to see that it gets the 7-speed DSG box now. The IQ headlights are a nice addition as well.
Looking forward to when it finally turns up.
PS. The dealer did offer me their demo coming in June. But it was the one colour that I would never have again... black. Only had two black cars before (one being a mk3 Golk GTI 16V and the other a Citroen BX 16v) and it drove me mad trying to keep them clean. No disrespect intended to anyone that loves black.

Re: Ordered a new Polo GTI
@MikeDO; welcome to the forum.
There’s quite a lot of uncertainty around lead times on new cars at present due to supply chain disruptions from Covid, semiconductor supply shortages, and now the Ukraine conflict. I believe one or two forum members have taken delivery of the facelift version of the Polo GTI and lead times do seem to be better than compared to the mk8 Golf, where 12+ months seems to be the norm.
I agree that the pre-facelift Polo GTI wasn’t very well spec’d. The one to go for was the GTI+ model which was well spec’d and was very good value compared to the ‘non-plus’ model. I have a 2020 GTI+ (bought new, and took delivery in Sept 2020) which has been problem free, other than requiring a replacement driver’s sill scuff plate as the original was damaged on delivery. Apart from that, it’s only been back to the dealer for its first service at 12 months old. The new car market was very different when I ordered my car compared to what it’s like now; when I ordered mine, I got around 16% discount from my dealer who pretty much matched the Drive the Deal broker price.
This is my first non-manual car and I find the DSG is pretty good most of the time. If I have a criticism of the DSG ‘box in my GTI+ I find in normal mode that it is a bit too keen to change up gears, and in Sport mode it holds onto gears for too long.
Good choice of colour, although I may be biased as my car is Pure White. I’ve owned a number of black cars in the past and they are a labour of love to keep looking good. White is so much easier to maintain IMHO and I don’t think I’d have another black car either.
Hopefully you won’t have to wait too long - at least you’ve got a decent car with good performance to use while you wait for your Polo GTI.
