Must admit that the above does not fill me with much (any?) confidence :( Even though it appears to be regarding the new Golf.

The only folks that I'm hearing of who seem to have any sort of movement in their orders for the new Polo GTI... are from folks who appear to have dropped on an order "already" in the system! I'm starting to wonder "what about folks who's orders have been added to the end of the order queue"??? If my delivery slips to more than 12 months, then I'm some what screwed!

When you see what the poor people of Ukraine are going through, waiting for a car is not that important.

100% agree; IMHO a long(er) wait time for a new car becomes a first world issue.

While I hear what you say and agree with you on this point to a certain extent (certainly about the horrors in the Ukraine).

But when you live in the middle of nowhere and have a disabled partner, then a car is actually essential.
So "yes", sorting something out before the end of my current PCP is important to me. Hence why I've asked a couple of questions re - delivery times etc.

I get you, I've supported a very disabled dad through stroke for years.
I'm mainly speaking for myself.
After a wait of 18 months for my current 2019 GTI because of the WLTP fiasco I vowed never to order a new one again.
Instead I'd see something on the forecourt and have that, ready to go.
Then like a muppet I've ordered the refreshed model and 'eyes roll' it looks like it's going to be another drawn out process.

I have relatives in v similar situations to the above two posts. One told me that "quite a few VWs are shown as being unavailable to order", whatever that means. He's considering other brands, seems Ford have plenty of cars in stock....

Apart from my GTI, which I ordered as it had to be what I wanted, I’ve always bought new from existing stock in the dealer group. My Tiguan was a car sat at the dealer that a customer had decided they didn’t want it so I had it within a week. My GTI I waited four months for, but that’s because I pinched another order for a test car that fit my specs.

Not sure with the massively long lead times I’d order to be built again. All I keep hearing from my local VW is that they are still struggling with chip shortages, due to new VWs all having multiple screens.

The most optimistic view I’ve read in the media of semiconductor supply shortages is that it’s expected to gradually improve during the second half of this year, but VW has a huge backlog of customer orders to clear, so IMHO very long lead times can be expected for some time to come; I read sometime during the last couple of weeks on one of the Golf forums of 60 week lead times - and I thought a wait of 8 months for my mk6 Golf back in 2011 was excessive! 😮.

The semiconductor shortages are also having a knock-on impact to some vehicle manufacturers car spec levels, as some manufacturers are opting to delete or downgrade some items of spec so they can continue to build cars; e.g. Ford has deleted folding door mirrors and the upgraded sound system on some models and BMW is fitting smaller screens in some of their cars. Wiring harness may may become the new semiconductor issue in the short term for VW, as much of its supply of wiring harnesses comes from Ukraine. Some of VW’s production facilities have already felt the impact of wiring harness supply issues - some production facilities have either been temporarily shut down or have been running at reduced capacity.

The information below was posted during the last week on the Golf GTI forum by a forum member who used to be the General Sales Manager at a large VW dealership and now works for Select Car Leasing. I’d expect information supplied by car manufacturers to vehicle leasing companies to be accurate, so have no reason to believe it’s not correct;

Options removed from ordering;
- LED Matrix Headlights
- Illuminated Grill
- Harmon Kardon Sound System
- Side assist including folding door mirrors

There’s the expectation that the above affects both new and existing orders. Not sure if it’s just the Golf that’s affected, or whether other models in VW’s model line-up may also be affected. However, some customers may find their new cars are delivered with items of spec missing. I’m not sure how I’d feel if I’d waited for many months for my new car, only to find it wasn’t the spec that I’d ordered…….🤔.

I'm looking forward to having full LED lighting. Sounds a little OCD but I dislike the mix of bulbs on my current car.
If I didn't get the new system then they can keep it.

Dealership rang me today. Apparently like prospective Golf owners I will be getting a letter explaining the delays.
My estimated build date has gone from April then May to now August unconfirmed.
He laughed and assured me I will be getting the new light system as its standard but it can't be optioned at the moment.

Not good news. Especially as yours was a build already in the system that you manged to pick up and tweak!

Makes me wonder what chance I have of getting mine before the end of the year!! As I ordered after you in early February and joined the back of the queue. My quoted delivery was already late November :cry:

Fingers crossed for you Mike, a miracle could happen you never know.
A friend who ordered a Ford S Max with all the trimmings has waited weeks and weeks for a build date and they can't give him one at the moment.
I did see a YouTube vid with a dealership in the country with a white one ready to go.
