Hi everyone, first post. I did do a quick search but couldn’t find an answer so apologise if this has been asked (many times) before.
I have just bought a 2018-r line and was wondering if it’s possible to use the apple play without the need for connecting via a USB cable?
Cheers

Unfortunately not. I think cars need to have the MIB3 infotainment unit to get wireless CarPlay. A 2018 Polo will have an MIB2.5 infotainment unit, so you’ll need to connect your phone via a cable. I just use a short length (30cm) VW USB cable with an angled lightning connector at one end that plugs into my phone - everything sits very neatly in the space below the heater controls with no long trailing wires.

no wireless carplay unless you get the facelift or find a reliable dongle such as a carlinkkit etc.
be aware wireless connections will not carry the 'lossless' audio associated with a wired apple music audio (if you are sensitive enough to hear the difference)

Don’t forget that you can connect via Bluetooth which gives you music and phone functions. There is a distinct difference in sound between the connected Airplay and the Bluetooth audio, the latter sounds thinner, maybe less bass.
