When the Michelin Pilot Sport 5 was initially announced I seemed to remember the 215/40R17 size being listed but it's now gone from Michelin's site?
They offer a 205/40, 205/45 and then skip the 215/40 to 215/45. The 205/40 being the tyre size for the Fiesta ST of a similar age to the 6C GTi. So it is fair to say it'll be fitted to more vehicles with the Fiesta being one of the UK's most popular cars and in general I see many more Fiesta ST's than Polo GTi's.
Michelin has cut 16" sizes entirely and reduced the number of 17" sizes as well which is understandable as manufacturers are trending towards larger rim sizes.
But I can't imagine Polo's, Fabia's, Ibiza's and A1/S1's being fitted with 17" rims being very niche as Goodyear are offering their new Asymmetric 6 in a 215/40R17.
I've been quite impressed with the PS4 having excellent grip wet or dry, pretty good feedback (once it's loaded up), decent noise, comfort and ok wear. Currently on 3mm on the lowest tyre after 21k miles roughly.
Seems I'll be getting a set of Goodyears when the time comes for new tyres.

Re: 215/40R17 Pilot Sport 5 dropped?
I’ve seen the PS5 advertised in 215/40 R18 which is the size tyre VW fit to the next generation (AW / BZ) Polo with the optional 7.5J x 18” factory fit alloys. They’re not cheap though;
215/40 R17 (and 215/40 R18 for that matter) aren’t that common a size of tyre and perhaps Michelin don’t sell that many. As the 6c GTI and other VAG branded cars with that size tyres get older, then more owners may start to consider mid range priced tyres rather than premium brands to help manage car running costs, so Michelin may also be seeing reducing sales of PS4 in 215/40 R17 size and decided not to invest in manufacturing the PS5 in that size.
It’s interesting that Goodyear are offering the new AS6 in 215/40 R17; AFAIK they didn’t make the AS5 in that size - again, presumably because (low) sales volumes meant it wasn’t cost effective to produce them as 215/40 R17’s. The older AS3 has been the summer tyre option from Goodyear in 215/40 R17 size.
- £146.10 each from Camskill Tyres. That’s a supply only price as Camskill don’t have fitting centres, so it’d be necessary to find somewhere will in to fit them - probably another £10-£15 a corner for fitting. Camskill are currently running a cashback offer; £24 if buying 2 and £60 if buying 4).
- £165.28 each - fitted, from Blackcircles
- £154.33 each - fitted, from Asda Tyres

The AS5 and 6 are both available in 215/40/17 on blackcricles but with the AS6 being newer its a bit more expensive at £123 compared to £117 and the PS4 being £106.
Plus Blackcirlces tend to do offers on Michelin and Goodyear tyres so if you wait you can get up to £40 off which covers delivery and some of the fitting
Other than those 3 the only other "UHP" tyre would be the Continental premium contact 6 as the Yokohama Advan sport and Bridgestone Potenza sport aren't available in 215/40/17. There is the Pirreli PZero but they're too much money at £122 for not that great of a tyre compared to the other offerings.

Apologies! It’s the AS5’s that (strangely) didn’t seem to be available in 215/40 R18 size, not the 215/40 R17’s. Websites are still showing AS3’s for the 215/40 R18’s - and they’re not cheap either, considering the AS3 is an older generation tyre.Bepis wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2022 9:19 am The AS5 and 6 are both available in 215/40/17 on blackcricles but with the AS6 being newer its a bit more expensive at £123 compared to £117 and the PS4 being £106.

Yes, Blackcircles often have offers on Michelin tyres - I think Michelin bought Blackcircles a few years ago, so they have a vested interest in customers buying their brand of tyres .
It’s always worth checking Asda Tyres as they can be a few £’s cheaper than Blackcircles. Asda Tyres currently have Goodyear AS6 in 215/40 R17 size at £126.37 and the older AS5 at £129.98 (fitted prices). They’re also giving Asda gift vouchers for £20 (with 2 or 3 tyres bought) or £40 (4 tyres bought) on tyres 17” or larger. Blackcircles price (incl fitting) for the same tyres is currently £139.21 (AS6) and £132.62 (AS5).

Re: 215/40R17 Pilot Sport 5 dropped?
i have the goodyear as5 on my gti and have been very impressed with them had the as3 before that and a good step up from them.
i cant comment on the wear as i'm happy with a set to last 6k miles as i do have a lot of power so it's to be expected.
i'll definitely be fitting the 6's to rear once the front 5's are done

Re: 215/40R17 Pilot Sport 5 dropped?
For those looking for tyres for their GTi, the PS5 is now available in 215/40/17. But wow have tyre prices shot up
For tyres excluding fitting and delivery from blackcircles:
PS4 £123
PS5 £145
Asym 5 £142
Asym 6 £140
I've been running the Asym 6 since January and after covering just shy of 10k miles they're down to roughly 5mm. Combined with the Ibiza Cupra front axle lower arm bushes and Fabia VRS rear axle bushes steering feel and response is very good.
Compared to the PS4's I had fitted prior they seem to be lasting longer. I got 23-25k before the PS4's were down to 1.6-2mm rotating at around 10k. Just a word of warning anywhere near 2mm all the PS4's did in even damp conditions was understeer. I also had a bit more wear on the inside edge on both sides so check your lower arm bushes for wear especially as the GTis have voids whereas the Cupra's are solid.
I'd recommend both tyres. If you want something a bit sportier get the Asym 6 if you want a bit more comfort get the PS4 and I'd imagine the PS5 is fairly similar just longer lasting.
