High beam no working after Osram Night Breaker LED retrofit
Hi there and happy new year.
I'm wondering if someone in the forum could help with this issue I'm having with my polo 6R. I changed the low beam H7 lamps with the german-street-approved Osram Night breaker LED a month ago and it worked perfectly (I drive this car outside the UK at the moment).
https://www.osram.com/ecat/NIGHT%20BREA ... P_4062000/
According to OSRAM, the product is compatible with both the high and low beams for the Polo 6R.
Yesterday I decided to upgrade the high beam H7s and for some reason they don't light up. I thought it was a fuse but the original halogen lights work fine when I put them back. If I change one lamp at the time they work, but after turning off the engine they don't light up anymore. I was wondering if the issue is related to a relay.
Anyone has tried this type of retrofit or could point me to the right direction? Thanks in advance!

Did you change halogen to LED in VCDS?

Re: High beam no working after Osram Night Breaker LED retrofit
Hi, thanks for your answer, no, I haven’t done that.
I didn’t change the lamp type for the low beams with VCDS when I replaced the halogens with LED neither and they work fine.
I actually don’t have VCDS but I could find someone. Do you know exactly how to do it? I thought that option won’t be available since the car was manufactured in 2013 and led lights were not that common back then.
Another thing I tested today was connecting a osram smart canbus bypass, but it doesn’t work either:

Thanks for your help

Re: High beam no working after Osram Night Breaker LED retrofit
The high beams are not monitored by the original 6R-BCMs.
So there is nothing to do with the VCDS or by adding systems to avoid CAN BUS failures (no sense).
They are fed directly by a +30 signal when you 'pull' from the lever/stalk (flashing), or by a +15 signal when you 'push' the lever/stalk.
hmm... install the two LED bulbs at the same time and check if they work in any of the two possibilities, by pulling or by pushing from the lever.
Something strange is going on, they should work.

Thanks for your answer!
Based on what you said I should mention that the flashing option by pulling the lever never worked on this polo. I always thought it was dirty or broken.
When testing the leds I replaced both lamps at the same time, and this is what happened:
Using the original halogen lamps:
Pull lever: lamps off, dashboard icon off.
Push lever: lamps on, dashboard icon on.
Using the Osram LED lamps:
Pull lever: lamps off, dashboard icon on!
Push lever: lamps off, dashboard icon on.
Using the Osram LED lamps + canbus adapter:
Pull lever: lamps off, dashboard icon off.
Push lever: lamps ON only the first time then off!, dashboard icon off.
Weird, isn’t it?

It is weird indeed.
If high beam is not controlled by BCM then you should check fuses , wiring and stalk.

So if you pull your lever, high beams never work?

Thanks all for your answers, i’ll check fuses, wiring and stalk then. I always thought the flashing mode didn’t work because it was dirty, I found online that is a common issue with VW and Audi and I found that some people managed to solve it by using a circuit cleaner without dissembling it. I’ll give a try and i’ll let you know

I had that issue, just make sure to air out the car, or it will stink on contact cleaner for few daysmank293 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 06, 2023 12:37 pmThanks all for your answers, i’ll check fuses, wiring and stalk then. Or just swap the halogen bulb back and test it, or unplug one headlight? and try?

Apart from the tips mentioned above, another good option would be to install New levers ... or from a scrapyard in very good condition.
(hmm.. i remember that long ago there were very good purchase options, including Aliexpress)

Re: High beam no working after Osram Night Breaker LED retrofit
Hi everyone, after my last post I ordered fuses and few parts from Aliexpress that I got today. I haven't managed to solve my problem yet, but I looking at the fuse box I've seen that my fuse number 36 is missing (right high beam). Does anyone know why my polo does not come with that fuse? also, if number 36 is for the right beam, where is the one for the left?

Thanks in advance.

RHD nr 34 is for both highbeams

So the issue was the missing fuse ? Funny !mank293 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 2:40 pm Hi everyone, after my last post I ordered fuses and few parts from Aliexpress that I got today. Once I bought a "fuse kit" from Ali , the metal part was almost identical in different rated fuses so I tested some on the bench with a power supply to see at what amperage they will blow.
Long story sort I threw them away.
I don't want to scare you but be careful!
