Better front Mats

Post by Metman888 »

So yesterday I gave my 2022 4700 mile GTi a quick hoover out and noticed my drivers floor mat already has a hole where my heal goes, never had this before on such a new car. Dunno if it's just bad luck or if its poor quality on VW's part, they do seem kinda thin. Anyway has anyone found any good quality aftermarket ones? Or ever rubber ones? had them in my last car (Puma ST) and was very convenient just giving them a blast with jetwash instead of hoovering.

Cheers

IMHO VW’s carpet mats aren’t that great, quality-wise. I also don’t like wet, soggy carpet mats during the winter months.

I bought some VW rubber mats for the front footwells the day I collected my car (I got a good discount as I’d also bought a car 🙂). I didn’t bother to put rubber mats in the rear as I rarely carry rear seat passengers. I keep the rubber mats in all year round and find them durable and easy to clean - a quick wipe over and they look pretty much like new again. They’ve been in my car 31 months now and look as good as the day I bought them, so IMHO durability and quality is fine.

For aftermarket carpet mats, I’ve seen carmats4u.com get a few mentions over the years on various forums. I’ve never bought mats from them so can’t vouch for the quality, but with most of their mats you can customise them to your requirements - e.g. carpet colour, edging and stitching colour, a logo of your choice. They also have the VW type press fastenings for the front mats to hold them securely in place. They also do rubber mats and boot liners.

There are other online retailers of aftermarket car mats - there’s a good chance that some of them source their mats from the same manufacturers, so it’s worth doing a little research on quality, features and price before you buy.

Yes those are the good mats.
I've got the same for wintertime.
Got mine from Amazon, cheaper than from vw itself.

Are these the ones you've got pal?
Yes, they’re the ones. You can see from the pictures posted by @Maarten that they also have a raised edge that helps contain any water from snow / slush that might be on your shoes during winter months.

As @Maarten has said, you may find them cheaper elsewhere if you do some research. Alternatively, if you have a VW dealer near you, it’s always worth contacting their parts department and asking if they’ll give a discount off the price. If you don’t ask, you don’t get! 🙂.

Just make certain if you buy them from a non-UK website that they’re for a right hand drive car.

Manufacturer fitted rubber mats front and rear every time. Have used in both cars for many years.

Including the special flexible one that covers the rear tunnel in the middle.

I’ve returned a few cars after 3 years service with the original soft carpets in A1 condition thanks to the rubber mats.
