well I'm shocked! customer service

Post by grazuncle2 »

I have had a few problems (and posts here) regarding my high idling Polo

one regarding the (possible) out of warranty charges to look at the car
a few trying to diagnose the problems and what scanner to loo at..

rather than this getting lost in them all I thought I'd clear up a few things which i must admit shocked me. The car was taken in this morning... after an hour i got a call..

GPF fully blocked and they did a forced regeneration of it... I was then expecting a statement that it was not a warranty issue but no.
Then they said they did a software upgrade on the car.
and then said they noticed the handbrake hard to operate and needed new cables and applied for permission to do the work under warranty.

Well I am perplexed with the GPF situation as I didn't think high rpm was a sign and no one mentioned it directly as a cause (not moaning here) and no hot smell I could detect. I'm shocked they didn't charge me separately for the forced regen and helping me out with a non related but beneficial to me job that needed doing.

This is a total turn around experience of this particular VW garage.. not a complaint at all..

PS I had asked ofr a courtesy car.. they gave an Rline Audi A6.. OMG the power of that thing! took me a little to find that it was a keyless start and where the hell the handbrake release was! LOL

It sounds like you had an interesting experience with your high idling Polo! It's great to hear that the Volkswagen garage was able to help you out and even do some additional work under warranty.

Regarding the GPF blockage, it's not always easy to identify the cause of these issues, so it's understandable that it may not have been mentioned directly as a possible cause of your high idling. However, it's good to know that the garage was able to identify and fix the issue for you. When a car is trying to do a passive regeneration it will usually happen along with a hot smell, and also would usually end the regeneration after a long and fast drive (usually only 20 mins) so it could indicate there is actually a problem as to why it was not able to complete the regeneration in the timely fashion.

As for the courtesy car, it sounds like you had a blast driving the Rline Audi A6! Just make sure you familiarise yourself with the keyless start and handbrake release before hitting the road again :D

Thanks

I really didn't want this experience to come over as a moan at the forum members at all... as you say there must be many things involved with regeneration and symptoms of it.. The garage said I could not have cleared it by driving. I have to accept what they said

regarding the Audi A6.. I'm unlikely to get behind that again.LOL

I only had it an hour and in high traffic going home before taking it back and I had a single straight line road (500 yds clear) to do a quick test and then it was all over.
The last time i got in something with that much urge was when my brother turned up at our house (11pm) having just bought a Porsche Carrera. OMG the urge in third gear (when i expected the power to drop, like everything else I had ever owned) seemed just the same as the lower gears. this was three up, adults too...

Anyway..
I'm going to attempt to monitor the soot levels myself now; trying to get the hang of the OBDEleven menu system

I just had a call to say that VW approved of the brake cables being replaced under warranty.. Booked in for beginning of May.

I'm beginning to think this dealership is under new management. Their approach is chalk and cheese versus previous experiences. We'll see how it goes to see if this is an aberration.

well the VW garage did the handbrake cables under warranty.. go knows how much that would have cost me if out of warranty.

looking at YT you have to take the brake drums off to get into the back plate etc.. Anyway it is nice to actually feels the tension as you pull up the handbrake lever. They washed the car too and free coffee, another hot chocolate and another coffee whilst waiting.

I decided on paying for another years warranty after this situation.

ps Soot levels and ash are not budging at all.. i'm monitoring them weekly now. Not sure it was the problem but it doesn't cost me anything to check on it.

Good that your handbrake’s been sorted at no cost to you. I’ll be extending the warranty on my car when the factory warranty runs out.

I’d not want a VW dealership to wash my car - I always decline their offer if my car’s ever at the dealer’s for servicing or warranty work as I don’t want my car’s paintwork to be given a free scratch and swirl treatment.

Yes the warranty has been useful....

I still don't think that the forced regen was covered under warranty; If anyone has a different experience, I'd be very interested in their story.

I just checked the Long and Short fuel trim readings, which were off, and now they are very close to perfect since the software update.

Re:car wash
I don't mind the free wash.. i can't say I have noticed anything that has bothered me.. but I respect how anyone could feel differently esp if they detail their vehicles... rather like the difference between an audiophile and an MP3 listener

I suppose the silver metallic paintwork hides a lot.. I don't know the garage's method of cleaning to be fair and It is never really dirty..
