Travel Assist currently unavailable

Had my polo in for first service today.
I’ve been getting an intermittent ping and warning message coming up saying ‘Travel Assist currently unavailable’. Sometimes several times on a normal short journey.

Annoying as hell.

Anyway I told VW at my service today and they said it was a known issue they’d seen before and there’s some issue with the steering wheel. Got a new steering wheel on order under warranty.

Just thought I’d share in case anyone gets this.

There’s been some mk8 Golf owners who have had the steering wheel fix and it hasn’t been entirely successful. A few forum members on Golf forums have had a second replacement steering wheel and I read of one person who’s either waiting for their third replacement steering wheel or have had a third replacement fitted!

Update on this - did not end well!

Polo in yesterday. New steering wheel fitted.

All seemed fine.

On my way home, thankfully in slow moving traffic, all the warning signs came on (and I mean all) the car lost power and just stopped. Everything flashing. 10 error reports.

When you lock the car and get out on the inside the buttons on the steering wheel are flashing.

Anyway now back at VW. With several confused looking technicians and much chin rubbing going on!

Either way they’ve a courtesy car lined up.

Not good ..... I have mine waiting for a new steering wheel and hoped it would cure the faults , if it does not, what is the next port of call on this ffs

My new wheel was fitted last summer. All has been good ever since. Obviously one of the lucky ones.
