That’s standard fit engine cover for the AW / BZ Polo GTI / GTI+. I think the same style (i.e. plain, black plastic) is used across VW, Seat and Skoda in vehicles with the EA888 2.0 petrol engine (Audi may get something a bit more fancy).

I’ve never felt the need to spend extra money on upgrading an engine cover that’s rarely seen - in my case when I lift the bonnet to check fluid levels and to dry the water deposits (from the scuttle, tops of wings, edge of the bonnet / along the top of the headlamps and grille front wings) after washing the car.

The engine cover on the facelift gti (207 Bhp) is a much more substantial affair than before ! It’s a quite thick rubbery material that definitely makes the car quieter.

Thanks for the replys, I agree. Ive just had a look, if I wanted to replace, if lost or broken, it's £500. That is a lot.

Spare wheel
I bought new spacer wheel and tools etc for my new 23 reg GTI Took 3 attempts as guys in parts shop weren’t sure what they were ordering. Then realised that I also needed the new back panel. Was quoted £350+ for the lot. I did get a discount when they saw my face as they’d messed me about. They also let me keep the original panel so if I update my car I’ll be taking out the wheel and asking them to replace the original panel. I gave up on the new foam insert as they’d no clue what to order and VW don’t specify 🙄

I’ve always asked the parts department at my local VW dealer for discount if I’m spending more than just a few ££‘s. There’s usually 10% available just for asking and if you don’t ask you don’t get 🙂.

Assuming the foam insert you’re referring to is the insert that fits around the battery in the spare wheel well to store the spare wheel tools, then this looks like the part for the AW / BZ Polo GTI;

It’s labelled as no.1 in the diagram at the link below and misleadingly described as a tool kit bag. I’m surprised the dealer didn’t know what to order as I’d expect them to have the same - or similar - diagrams on their parts system.

If you search on the part number quoted at the links above you might find some cheaper.
