The kings red really looks good with the black wheels and wing mirrors. I see it’s getting professionally detailed too - nice ceramic coat I assume?

It has dawned on me that I moved out my polo gti as it was the family car. However my wife now having a golf means I don’t need the family car….. there’s temptation on a gti 25 starting.

Few pics from my moors jaunt at the weekend with my friend who has a '93 Polo Genesis Coupe.

A week after owning the car, theres a couple of niggles, the headlights are a bit too low for my liking and the boot/tailgate plastics aren't fitted right, theres a gap and I found a random screw.
Got that booked in for refitting/adjusting.

The Predictive Cruise Control is a hoot, driving along at 60mph minding my own business with a couple of cars behind me, then the car "see's" a random 20mph sign then brakes! So that got turned off!

The drive compared to my '18 GTI is so much firmer, theres very little roll in some tight corners. I noticed a black bar which runs from one rear strut to the other, rear strut brace? Pretty sure that wasn't in my previous one.

Otherwise, I am enjoying this car quite a bit :D

@Anth146; Seeing yours and your friend’s cars side by side shows how much the Polo has grown in size over the years.

Headlamps being aimed too low seems to be a quite a common issue with VW. I had the same issue on my 2016 Polo GTI and also on my current 2020 Polo GTI+. I’ve seen posts on other VW forums over the years where owners have had the same issue.

I adjusted mine myself a couple of years ago to improve the range; it passed the MOT last year without any issues so they must still be within acceptable limits. However, the dealer adjusted them downwards when my car was serviced and MOT’d last week (I definitely didn’t ask them to) and now they’re dangerously low for night time driving; lower than they were when I first got the car! I don’t even get flashed by other drivers when they’re on full beam. I’ll adjusting them upwards again.

I assume IQ lights set to auto would resolve any night vision problems? Our Ed25 has them, but neither of us have been out in the dark yet.

Thanks for the reply. Much appreciated. At least I know it's standard :)

JAM35D wrote: Mon Sep 09, 2024 1:44 pm Lucky enough to pick my Edition 25 up last Friday. I just have a quick question and hoping someone else with one can help answer it. Is it normal not to see the gear number displayed when driving in D ?

I'm guessing it is normal and probably due to the engine power and 7 speed DSG gear box. I can see the gears in S mode e.g. it scrolls through S1, S2, S3 etc. and in M mode (M1, M2 etc.) which is obvious I know.

But when in 'Normal' drive mode the display just shows D. Not an issue and no biggy really but I thought I would ask as I did see a POV drive on YouTube where the Normal mode did show D1, D2 etc. when they briefly drove it in Normal. The POV was on a left hand drive and I have seen that in some regions the Polo GTi has a slightly different power and DSG spec, so that may be the reason it was showing.

As I said, it's not a big issue for me. I just wanted to make sure everything is working as it should be. Thanks in advance :)

(I've had a 17 plate Polo GTi and a 69 plate Polo GTi in the past and I've just changed from a 64 plate BlueGT)
Seems the mk8 Golf is the same - or at least it was back in 2021; see discussion topic at the link below;

Thank you for your reply and sharing the link. I'll take a look

A little off topic, but on the subject of deliveries of vehicles from port to the UK, I read on the Golf GTI forum a suggestion that fossil fuelled cars may be held at port and EV’s given priority so VW can hit the mandated quota for new UK EV registrations under the Zero Emission Vehicle mandate. If VW - and other car manufacturers - miss that quota (a target of 22% of all new UK car sales need to be EV’s in 2024), then they’re fined £15k for every non compliant car sold over the (non-EV) limit.

I’m assuming that ‘non compliant’ means non-EV cars. As the 2024 target for EV’s is 22% then by default, non-EV’s as a percentage of total UK car sales must not exceed 78% if fines on manufacturers are to be avoided.

Those EV quotas increase year on year from now until 2030 when the EV quota as a percentage of total UK car sales is 80%!

Yes a friend told me that today, he read it on the golf forum. There’s been a few boats from Emden to Grimsby over the weekend, hopefully not all EV cars on them!

Hi all,
I have another quick question for anyone else that's been lucky enough to get their Edition 25.

Have you been able to switch on the front and rear fog lamps independently of each other? e.g. one pull front fogs only, second position front and rear.

Not sure if I'm doing something wrong but there is only one pull out position and it puts both front and back fogs on.

The in car and online manual suggests the standard two position system but I want to sense check here in case I'm missing something.

I may be wrong but I think I can remember reading on the forum (sorry, can’t remember who posted or if they’re still an active forum member) that those lights in the lower front grille on the facelift Polo GTI aren’t actually fog lights - they’re additional forward facing lights they come on with the headlamps. I’m assuming it’s the same with the ED25. Check to see if the front lower grille lights on your car are illuminated automatically when your headlamps are on without you switching your fog lamps on.

Hopefully forum member with either a facelift GTI or an ED25 can also confirm the above or otherwise.

Edit; just checked VW’s website and front fog lights aren’t listed as part of the GTI’s spec.

I had the gti plus then the facelift. The plus had front fogs, the facelift did not. Tbh with the matrix leds and light bar at the front it didn’t need them.
