Hi all,
I have a 2012 1.2TDI Match that i’ve owned for almost a year now, it’s my first car (been driving since feb 24).
I have noticed in recent weeks that, regardless of whether the car is hot or cold, in gears 3,4 and 5 when putting my foot down the turbo will ‘kick in’- i assume it’s the turbo- and the car will rev really high. However, the main issue comes from the MFD, which shows the gear BELOW what it’s in.
Here’s an example:
I am pulling onto the A12, in 4th gear. I will put my foot down, and the car will rev up to ≈3k and the MFD will show 3rd gear. If i push through and continue accelerating, after usually less than 8 seconds the revs will drop and the correct gear will be shown.
What could the source of this problem be? I am unsure as to what it could be, i am not particularly mechanically minded.
Thankfully, I plan to upgrade to a BlueGT soon anyway, but i’d like to know what’s causing this issue either way.
Thank you for any help!

Re: 1.2TDI acceleration issues?
Hi
It could be a slipping clutch, which would explain why the revs are going up when you accelerate hard in high gears. Not sure how the gear indicator works in your particular car, but if the indication is based on road speed and engine revs, a slipping clutch could cause the error you describe.
