Satnav thinks I’m driving on the right

Post by Violentviolet »

I’ve noticed that my factory fitted satnav tells me to turn right off motorways. I can only assume it thinks I’m driving in a country that drives on the right. Can’t spot a settings adjustment. Any ideas folks.

Have you try rebooting the infotainment?

@Violentviolet; Some early UK mk8 Golf’s had an issue where they seemed to ‘think’ they were driving on the wrong side of the road. It wasn’t in relation to sat nav instructions though, but those early mk8 Golf’s - when using ACC - would slow down when the driver attempted an overtaking manoeuvre because they assumed the driver was trying to undertake rather than overtake. Some of those early cars also misinterpreted UK speed limit signs as KPH rather than MPH and some cars were being slowed down unexpectedly (it was an intermittent problem).

The Golf has an option for driving on the right or left under the lights sub-menu in the vehicle settings, so although overtaking manoeuvres isn’t specific to the car’s lights, I wonder if the headlights setting also controlled - or influenced - other functionality? Worth checking if your car has a similar setting and if it does, what it’s set to, and whether the car ‘remembers’ the new setting if it’s changed by the driver.

From memory, the problem on the Golf was fixed by a software update early on in the Golf’s life, so I’d be surprised if current versions of the Polo’s software has this fault, although it’s worth bearing in mind that VW don’t have a great history with their in-house developed software.
