Low washer fluid warning

Post by inspectorsams »

Quick question - does my 2018 Polo GTI+ have a low washer fluid warning at all? Since owning it (just over 3 years) nothing has ever flagged up, and I seem to run out of washer fluid without any warning. Seems a bit poor on a car of this spec to not have a sensor in the tank linked to the dashboard. If it is supposed to warn me, any idea where the fault may be? Thanks!

From memory, and it’s been a few years, the gti plus didn’t come with that as standard. You needed to specify the winter pack to get that and this link suggests that too https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/idhub/con ... t-p11d.pdf

I’ve had cars of all different sizes and most didn’t come with screenwash washer level as standard, only my bigger cars like the Tiguan did. It also wasn’t normally a standard item on a car the size of the polo (supermini or city car).

My 2020 Polo GTI+ didn’t have a low washer fluid warning lamp in the instrument display.

I’ve had 5 VW’s and from memory, the only one that did have a low washer fluid warning was a mk6 Golf GTD. That car had the xenon headlamps option and as part of that option you also got headlamp washers and a low washer fluid warning lamp.

Thanks for the prompt response. Can a sensor and associated wiring be retrofitted? Also, was heated washer jets an option? I also find when the temperature drops to near 1/2 degrees my washers stop working anyway…

I don’t know if a sensor can be retrofitted, although I dare say anything’s possible - at a cost. Heated washer jets were part of the extra cost optional winter pack. As for the washers not working in very cold weather - ensuring that the washer fluid is at the correct concentration for winter conditions should help to minimise the risk of the jets freezing up.
