6c GTI Shock Absorb/Damper Replacement Alternatives

Post by Gee40 »

Does anyone have experience of replacing the original VW shock absorbers with high quality aftermarket items. (not electromagnetic adjustable)

The car has just been serviced at a well known VW specialist in Manchester and they have reported light misting from both front shock absorbers and quoted over £600 inc fitting (thanks to VWs pricey OE parts)

When I look on various part supplier websites things are less than clear. eg Bilstein B6's are labelled as a better than original and suitable for cars with sports suspension, but B8's are detailed for use with cars with lowered suspension. The GTI has suspension lower than other models but I haven't lowered the car from standard.

The main criteria is that the replacements perform as well as the standard VW items

Thanks
