Help to find the correct service parts for my 2021 Match 1.0 Polo

Post by nsr »

Minor service done today - they brought up that air filter, cabin filter, and spark plugs are due for change. Citygate quoted over £300 to change these and trying to save ATM so will do them myself (am pretty handy and have worked on cars before).

Need help finding the right part number for these spark plugs, along with any info on if I can get OEM parts or where I can get the next best thing.

Really appreciate any info that anyone could provide :)

Filters:- VW Group tend to fit MANN filters rebranded with VW Group numbering and boxes - if you examine the air filter in the car at the moment, as long as it is a VW Group part, it will have the VW Group numbering on it AND the Mann name and model/type number on it.

So, head off to the MANN filters website and input your car year, model, engine code etc and you will find the correct filter numbers, both for the air and oil filters.

Check the price online that Halfords are selling them for (they source them from EuroCarParts locally but tend to be cheaper!), if the price is okay for you, order in online for collection as Halfords will be ordering them in for you from ECP.

Spark plugs:- VW Group tend to fit NGK plugs - in the past when you removed a spark plug, as well as the VW AG on the insulator and the VW Group part number stamped on the metalwork, there was normally the original NGK part number, probably not enough room for that on these new smaller spark plugs.

So, head of to the NGK UK website and input your car engine's details and the correct spark plug code/part number should be revealed - maybe also check for same age SEAT Ibiza or Skoda Fabia as some of these parts listings only list certain engine codes once ie for a single VW Group marque - the reason being ------, ie not known.

For sparkplugs, I tend to order them in from proper online sparkplug sellers, watch out for copies being sold - there are big proper online sparkplug sellers out there.

Also don't ignore the fact that by now from these searches you should have discovered the VW Group part numbers, keep a note of them, and stuff them into eBay searches as sometimes NOS is being sold at a very good price, I think that VW Group part fund dealerships to dispose of old stock, for instance when new branding/packaging is rolled out - that stuff is sold by specialist auction, and ends up on places like eBay - I tend to be open about if I fit NOS genuine VW Group service parts or Mann and NGK - which ever is cheapest to my door step woks for me.

For sparkplugs I've used sparkplugs.co.uk and Green Spark Plugs - possibly the same company, like many online traders, having a few online names and differing prices can be useful at pulling in extra business - and why not.

Edit:- sorry I missed out pollen/cabin filter, again VW Group use Mann and I usually fit the "best" version which is their Frecious versions, Valeo also do a similar version of pollen filter - buying online at best price works for me unless Halfords or ECP beats that.

Yes, but from my personal experience, the engine build factories in CZ for all these small engines, and maybe some other engine building factories elsewhere, fit Mahle oil filters, but the supplier of service engine oil filters to the VW Group "service parts" warehouses, tends to be Mann - maybe VW Group is trying to split/share the supply between 2 manufacturers, which is not a bad idea.

This original request was for "service parts" supplier not "initial build" supplier.

Edit:- although maybe VW Group source parts from different manufacturers in other "sales territories".

Thank you for all your replies.

I have found the correct filters and am now looking for spark plugs.

I know the engine code is a needed piece of information to find the correct spark plugs but I’m actually struggling to find my engine code. There is no sticker in my spare wheel well, it’s not written into my owner’s manual, and I can’t tell if the engine number on the V5C is related in any way to the engine code.

Maybe to check your engine code by going onto the Opie Oils website, then inputting your reg number, that should give you your engine code and maybe even engine number and most of your VIN - so you can check if it returns the correct VIN as being a way to trust the engine code given.

Thank you - Opie Oils website on a computer managed to find me the engine code (which matches with the beginning of the engine number on the V5C), and the VIN elements match too so I am confident.

Fascinating thing is that in all my searches I never really came across engine code DSGD.
