Newer Polo Alloys Wont Fit

Post by loganramage07 »

Hi, I recently bought some polo alloys 15” from a 2020 model to fit onto my 2010 model that had 14” steel wheels on. I asked the garage to fit them and i was told they could get them on the back, but on the front they caught on the brake calipers? They are a good garage so i know they will have tried what they could but im wondering if anyone else has a solution? I researched before and it seemed they would fit. I am not mechanic minded myself however so id probably have to take it to a different garage like a volkwagen specialist if there is a solution. If not, does anyone know where I could find compatible wheels if otherwise? Thankyou for any advice

Hi Logan,

This is actually a very common issue when upgrading to alloy wheels, I ran into the exact same problem with mine. It usually boils down to the wheel's offset.A simple set of wheel spacers fixed it for me.

Your best bet is to take the car to a professional shop where they can test-fit a few different sizes to ensure you get the proper clearance between the spokes and the brake caliper. Just a quick heads-up, make sure you buy hub-centric spacers. If you use generic universal ones, you will likely experience annoying steering wheel wobble under acceleration and braking.
