I think for the price is hard to find something as well rounded as the polo gti, fast, looks good, lots of kit, rare..., If I were going to sell (and get a diesal), i'd have to go for a PD TDI, the fabia Vrs looks very temping, sadly not going for around 6k though :(

I saw a prgram on TV that said that these new eco-cars do 40mpg... now I get 39.7 from my VW Polo GTI - So, I'm not going diesel as it's not worth it.

Diesel is too expensive now and will get more expensive with each Labour gov budget as they penalise companies using HGVs by ramping up diesel prices - they have a guaranteed tax income from industry.

Otherwise, from the service perspective, I know what you mean... might get a petrol easily self-maintained motor myself cos I've lost faith in all VW Dealers.

well the relativly large amounts of torque and being able to get upto 600 miles out of a tank of fuel (as well as the mpg not being awful when givng it some) makes sense to me, my Gti certainly ain't bad on fuel, but its not exactly economical either

Christ, I'm lucky if I get much over 30! Maybe it was because my car was running badly in the first place. and it might get better in the future

I've got a friend with a chipped 206 Hdi that's running 120 ish brake and 200 foot pounds of torque, and he still gets 45-50 mpg... Hence me being tempted..

Round near me petrol is overtaking the price of deisel at some garages

Autocar

When the Polo GTI first came out in 2000, Autocar did a test on it. They used unleaded BP petrol (phur) and got 39.2 mpg.
