Insurance

Post by Ian »

Not sure where to post this one, so appologies in advance if in wrong place.

Car insurance. Seems some companies do not have a clue when it comes to modifying a car. My company kept asking me 'why' when I said I was adding alloys and tinted lenses - they said premium would rise £300. They could not understand why.

I've done a bit searching but was wondering if anyone has info on insurance companies who understand and can give realistic prices...you all have mods and I'm about to start, so where (UK) do you do your shopping ??

Thanx,
Ian

I've got new BBS wheels on my polo and asked to include tints as well on the policy. Eagle Star did not charge me extra for it. I have been with them for 7 years and I'm 28 so that might make a difference.

Good luck!

I'm with CIS and they don't seem to charge any extra for mods. Andy (polo6n1600i) is with them too. He's done a hell of a lot of engine mods, has everything declared and his premium hasn't increased at all.

With this car we are with the AA - pretty odd when it's a motoring organisation. It's the wife's car...full no claims etc

Strangely enough, I had Thatch Cat 1 alarm installed at weekend - complete with certificate - sent to insurance company and they wouldn't lower it (the premium) - said it did not make any difference from standard cat 2 immobiliser....huh, I'd like to hear them say that if it got totalled by criminal and there was no alarm fitted.

Think I'll give the companies you mention a buzz...thanks guys.

I'm with Directline at the moment and they dont charge for having 16" alloys instead of the 15" standard ones.

I'm thinking of moving over to tesco next month who also dont charge. But they wont replace a body kit if it gets damaged unless it's the one from VW :? :? :?

Well mind you I doubt if directline would either.

James.

Greenlight Insurance!

http://www.greenlightinsurance.com/

They are fantastic... The company is run by Club GTi Members, so they know exactly what you're on about.

They will insure your car even if you put a 3.2 V6 Supercharged engine in it!

Phone them and ask to speak to Neil.

Tell him "we" (as in UK-Polos) put you his way.
