I've got a set to fit to mine. I believe Mark1 Golf carriers and calipers fit, (or if you can find any calipers in a scrappy stamped with VW and Roman numerals II, they should fit). I'm not too sure on other carrier set-ups, but I hope thats of some help.

Karl.

yeah I beleive you can use any VW II calipers for vented disks. I ended up using g40 calipers with the standard GT carriers and used the G40 sliding bolts and tubes. the gt ones should work ok though, but one is shorter than the g40 ones.

ohh heres the setup I used but ignore the disks as they are the wrong ones but still 20mm thick.

the mk1 golf gti/g40 brake pads are the same shape as the GT ones, just a bit thinner

Personally I have VWII calipers and carriers waiting to go on (when I can afford the discs and pads to match..). Don't know if the caliper fixings are the same on mk2/3 polos, but if they are then almost any mk2 golf gti, late mk1 golf gti, passat, scirrocco etc will be fitted with them, fair bit easier to track down than G40 calipers :)

cheers guys, so the calipers with 'II' written on it should bolt straight on with the carriers from the same donor car? then i just need to bolt the discs on?

no if its a golf etc the carriers have differentr mounting holes, so you need to use the carriers from the polo not the donor. then you just need the vented disks. you should get some new pads, but you could use your aold ones (although its not recommended)

:D Hi I did this conversion on my 1043cc Polo which has the same vw type 1 brakes as all GT/non G40 mk2fs. I used the pad carriers, calipers, of a Scirroccco GTII as they are the same as a mk1 golf GTi and G40.
I would buy new front flexi hoses for the brakes when you are there as they are only about £6 a pair for standard ones. I got all the bits out the scrap yard for £25 (mounting bolts/calipers/padcarriers/old pads and disks.) A then traded in the old calipers as exchange items then bought new cross drilled and vented disks and fast road pads and just wire brushed the pad carriers. Its a worth while conversion as it improves your driving enjoyment no end even in the 1.0L! As a can now do the full (95mph and be able to stop before the end of the slip road!)
