Rear Speakers

Just wondering if anyone with a 5-door has been near the speakers in the rear of their car? It sounds like the largest speaker on the near-side has a damaged cone and I'd like to replace it -- but only if it doesn't involve too much of a headache (getting too much of that from work lately).

Well I have a 3-door.

But anyway, is the speakers on the door-panel you talking about? If it is, it will involve you taking the door panel off by taking a few screws out and unclipping it - I believe.

P.s: Don't trust me.

Ack,

Okay I've had a poke and prod around the door, but I can't see any way to get the panel off. There's two (what I guess are Spline) screws near the locking mechanism on the door edge, but nothing which looks like it will release the interior panel.

Anyone have an idea what I need to do? I've searched the forum and found a few references, but only for 3-door versions, or one where someone said you have to remove the door handle?!

Bleh... looks like it's going to be more complicated than I'd hoped anyway, but I'd still be interested in any help anyone can provide.

Well I think you've got the first step mate. I think you have to remove those spline/torx screws on the handle bit and then you just have to carefully unclip the whole door panel.

That's what its holding, just clips. And the the couple of screws. I think there are some at the bottom??

nope, no screws at the bottom for the rear doors.....

Nope, just low-tech winders. I guess that makes my life harder since the winder handle will be in the way too... grrr.

ive got crank handles too and i dontknow how to get the rear trim off because of them!

Check out the last page of that document -- although it's for the front door, I see no reason why it shouldn't be the same for the rear ones.

If I get time tomorrow I'm going to try pulling that spacer bit out... worth a try I guess.

Heh, would you believe that it actually works! You just pull the spacer away from the direction that the handle is pointing (with the window fully closed) and surely enough, the handle comes off.

So now that I can do that, what do I need to do to get the rest of the trim off?

the rest of the trim should be held in by the torx screwdriver at the end of the door. then its just clips (i think they are similar to front 1s after the crankhandle is off

)
