Lump/buldge on tyre

Post by sylonien »

Well today when I was Sainsbury petrol station I realised I had a lump on the wall on my front left tyre. It looked rather dodgy so I went straight to my local VW dealer and they said they had to replace it.

And even they didn't/couldn't tell me why it happened. they jus replaced it. Took 2 hours though. So long. Was boring myself to death so I went to the Parts section and spoke to the guy about alloys and he recommended me the 17" Exor ones for £135/each without tyre. Retail price is £150, but he can do it bit cheaper. :P

I actually went in to the spare parts bit, the inside and it was quite interesting and saw the software they used on their computer to bring up all the part numbers/names and detail. I want that software!!

You used to be able to buy (dodgey) copies of ETKA online. However i've heard you can also download it from certain download applications. As well as ELSA (is that correct) which is the electronic servicing thingy. Someone else can be more specific if they wish.

That bulge on your tyre is the result of either a harsh contact with a curb, or rock, or otherwise. In that exact spot, the canvas/steel carcas of the tyre has ruptured, which means the air is kept in the tyre only by the elasticity of the rubber outer layer. It's a blowout waiting to happen. You dealer did the only right thing to replace it, kudos to them.

I'm not going into the software here again. I will say this though; you can buy both ETKA, ERWIN and ELSA, directly from VW. Expect to go bankrupt if you do.

Oh right. Well all done and sorted now. :P Strange 'cos I don't remember doing any of those things. Must of been of the other members of my family.

He he well i guess i'll leave that thought of getting that software then if I have to go bankrupt.
