A few more questions...

Post by taylor4502 »

Hopefully you can help...

1. The 2 temp. sensors on the water flange. Am I right in saying that one of them goes to the ECU and one goes to the temp. gauge? If so what will happen if I run my car with one of them disconnected?

2. How do I know if my charger needs a rebuild? There is a bit of oil in the hose that runs from the charger (actually from the intercooler) to the engine. Is this bad news?

3. Can anyone confirm what lights a 92 G40 should have. I think, from a VW brochure, that it should have tinted rears, orange side repeaters and clear front indicators.

4. Got a water leak at the back. Have checked the nearest bumper bolt and the rear light seal, but all seem OK. Any other 'usual suspects'.

Thanks for reading.

the black temp sensor is the one that the gauge uses so you can run with it disconnected.

if you run the blue one disconnected (which the ecu uses) then your engine will enter a diagnostic (or limp home mode) so it will run like s**t

You sure?

The reason I am asking is that a cable has come off the blue plug. But with only the black one connected the temp gauge works fine. Could it be the other way round? None of the cable colours match up with the haynes manual which is a bum.

Sorry, just realised I am speaking rubbish.

So black - gauge. Hence why my gauge still works.

Blue = ECU. So engine runs a bit dodgey.

Any chance the black plug can be plugged on the blue sensor?

havnt a clue since there is a blue connector and a blue temp sender, and a black connector and a black temp sender, most people dont get them mixed up.....

...... if you want to know for sure go out and try swapping the connectors.

although I wouldnt reconnend that with the ignition switched on.

If you havent had it done or know it hasnt recently been done GET IT SERVICED immediately. Better safe than sorry, a little oil in the hoses etc is normal btw.

I think it was all the later cars '93/'94 that were fitted with the tinted rears.

Sunroof or tailgate rubber seal
