Chaps,
Following on from the thread below (the one about 'if I had £1000') I was thinking does anyone know what the potential bhp of the 1.6 16v engine in the GTI? We all know that the 1.8T in the Golf is highly tuneable and the engine is rock solid, so much though that I've heard it can take up to 400bhp before...well, blowing up or melting! What about the engine in the GTI?
Could you possibly get 250bhp+ out of the engine with say a turbo kit from
http://www.rothe-motorsport.de/index1.htm
and then nitrous? Or would the engine simply give up after the turbo? If it is indeed possible, now wouldn't that be sweet...? (please god let me win the lottery!)
Check out the site, Rothe motorsport seem to know what they are doing and have turbos for other Polo engine types...if you had the cash and can understand German.
Saj, did you get your kit from here? but then I remember you collecting it at this year's Inters, right?
Whats the maximum output of the 1.6 16v engine?
If it were me, I'd be happy with the quoted 200/225bhp that Saj's turbo kit could give you (along with the other engine strengthening mods) - I can't give you a maximum figure of what you could achieve, but with a front wheel drive car, once you're up at 225-250bhp, you really can't go much further without compromising the handling - torque steer etc. I believe it was a problem for the Ford Focus RS engineers, hence the LSD they fitted to it to help it cope.
How about the world's first 4x4 Polo 6n2? Now that would be something. Who's gonna foot the bill?
