A company in USA called Ross Tech make a product called VAG-COM which is about the best you can get.

You could always ebay for one.... though im guessing there's probably a snowball's chance in birmingham that it'll connect to a Polo, especially if you have an SPi

edit: but that link has hooked me back up with a LONG hunted "shiftpoint analysis" spreadsheet that i lost because of a dodgy backup about 18 months ago........... cheers :D
To anyone who's been on the rollers: plug your data into this little baby and find out where to change each gear

(edit 2: ok its not quite the one i thought, but a decent enough replacement
edit 3: and an article on air/fuel ratios that shows why running at full throttle is actually a bit less efficient - lambda 1.0 is most efficient for cruising... 0.85 to 0.95 (ie slightly rich) for greatest power)

and if you go to the stealers u can get hold of the obd11 adapter which adapts the d shaped plug to the old 2 plugs as found on the mk 3 polo but only ideal for check for faults but realy thats it
but on the d shape sockets they do mostly everthing that vag 1551 and 1552 do

wow! I didnt know a vw dealer would sell those! I'll have to ask about that, I've got an ODB cable & a laptop with vag-com on it already.
