Post by pete69zx »

ok, so im thinking largest displacemennt engine for 'Don Polio'... and ive come up with 1.6 Golf mkII engine :D

Will it fit & how easy?

What parts would be needed from the mkII Golf... aswell as just the engine/gearbox?

Pete.

From info i have gathered about VW's.... short block, & the next larger size motor (1800cc) is a tall block, so wont fit (aparantly).

I havn't sourced the block yet, but the plan 'IS' to do so, once i know what i need.

Cheers

Come on people... does anyone know about this conversion?

I wanna know if its the cheapest increase in power for the Polo chassis. I know most will say... just get a GT or even a G40 motor (or car for that matter). The thing is MkII Golf 1.6's go fo next to nothing!

I'm also thinking twin twin 40's or 45's! Yes, thats two twin carbs to make this baby fly n sound the buisness ;)

Please help... i need more POWAH!

i dunno about mk2 1.6's but i recentely have been told that mk3 golf 1.6 engines fit straight in as apparently they share the same mounts.
like i say, ive only been told this and dont know for certain. might be worth looking into though :?:

MK2 golf 1600s are all tall blocks as far as Im aware so no. You need a mk3 golf/mk4 polo block.

GT Coupe on the way (possibly)

Post by pete69zx »

Thanx for the replies guys. Looks like i might end up with a GT Coupe aswell as my other 2 Polio's, LoL.

So, my quest for more than 55bhp is underway:-P LOL

Cheers.

yeah sorry seats used the same small block engines as the mk3 golf and mk4 polo. Steve was telling me about that derby isnt it an AEE engine? (same as 1600cc MPi polo engine)

I dont think so but tarquin and steve can fill us in im sure. 8) Ive done the 1.4 conversion, the 1.6 was too much hassle and tax and (probably) insurance.
