Dash Lights not working.

Post by Petrified »

Hi!

I'm looking at a couple of cars with intent to buy. One of them the dash lights are not working, no problem I have a RA for now to tell me how fast I'm going.

Could it be an easy fix?
Worse case how much do you think it would costs to fix? or diy?
Should it affect the MOT?

Thanks,
James.

I've only just done this in my mk2, and I can't imagine a mk3 would be any harder. All it took was a 99p bulb (labelled 'Panel Light' and it was the only type in the shop, so I assume they're pretty standard things..) and a few minutes to get the clocks out and replace it.
Shouldn't think it'd cost the earth to get an autoelectrician to do it for you either, if you can't be bothered :) Probably take them 10 minutes max.

:D

Thanks.

Were all the lights not working? or just some of them?

Just a couple.. right hand side dash light was working, left hand side and digital clock backlight were broken. Headlamp switch as well.. They've been gradually dying out since I got the car, decided to do something about them :)
