Condensation in headlamp!

Post by cr »

Hi all, can anyone tell how to remove the drivers headlamp or just the lens 'cos mine has condensation in it and it looks cack! Or any other way of getting rid of it?

Cheers.

They are designed to dry out when the headlight is on. There is a vent on the back. It will clear itself eventually. Try beam, it kicks out lots of heat.

Yeah i've tried that. It does go (mostly) but as soon as it goes damp, it comes back. Was wondering if there was a seal that could be changed because it seems to get in quicker than it'll evaporate. :? Hopefully it aint a 'bumper off' job to get the headlight or lens out??

sadly it is a bumper off job. But its not a big job if you have the right torx bit. But remember to put masking tape on the part of your wing directly behind the indicator. Otherwise it will get scratched, and jet wash your car first!

You cannot take the lens off easily. But you could remove the back panel from the zenon unit. I would recommend you try to do this inplace with a hair drier on moderate heat. Its likely though that the rubber bit that seals in the xenon has come adrift. But you will probably have to take the unit out to fix that. There is a stupid plastic finger that makes the whole process a real ballache, if you break this tab off, its much easier! The connectors can really make you cry too. So good luck. But perhaps you should just park your car into the sun one day. If it steams up too much the reflector will start to deteriorate which looks odd on xenons. A new unit is £168.

Good luck, PM me let me know how you get on. I fiddled a lot with these units, because I have them on my non-Gti!
