Chrome Bumper question

Post by SteB »

I have in my possesion a chrome bumper for a mk1 (front) - just the covering, no irons or end caps

it has a part no. on it - 861 807 111C - i looked it up on ETKA and found the description to be "Bumper, Chrome, for vehicles with headlight washer system"

does anyone know if this is any different to any other chrome bumper for a mk1 polo ? i'd never seen or heard of such a washer system either, anyone got any pics ?

Cheers

Steve

It was very rare, but some of the mk1/2 polos had headlamp washers. I guess this bumper will just have small cutouts for the jets. Never actually seen a polo with headlamp washers though..

that explains it then, theres two small cutouts at each end - near the indicator cutouts, ones probably for the rubber moulding, the other for the washer jet

I've only ever seen the mk2 with the headlight wash they had what look like overriders on the bumper and a huge wash bottle it filled all of the inner wing.Probably a pointless VW option.

Man, I'd love chrome bumpers and round headlamps on the Derby, but at the same time I want it to be totally original. I'm in a damn pickle I am!

The chrome bumper with headlight cleaning system ist different in: 2 holes 20 mm diamter for the water hose and 4 more holes to fit the rubber unit on the bumper.

You cannot cover the 20 mm holes with the rubber stripe for the GLS Version.

The cleaning system was standard for export to Sweden. In Germany are running just 3 known cars.

My 1974 Audi 50 has the cleaning system. Try to find a pic.

Mike
