Xenons on a Polo

Post by des_pd_ tdi »

I put myself down as the guinea pig for Xenon replacements following Martyn's email.

Basically there was no room in my engine bay to fit the brackets required for the units that power the Xenons up. My engine takes up to much room and the battery is huge, the only way to fit them on my car would be to remove the front bumper and fit them in there somewhere but I'm not prepared to go that far.

If anyone has a petrol power or the 1.4 TDi then I'm sure you could find somewhere to fit these units, drop Martyn an email for more info.

They would make an excellent mod on the 9N but not on the 1.9TDi

Are you able to take pictures?

I'm interested but as I'm not that technical wouldn't want to try if there were any problems...

It's basically a plugin job, but you need to mount the Xenon power units that kick out the power to charge the bulbs these need to be screwed to a flat surface in the engine bay. Do you have any space available in there?

There's not much to it really if you can wire a plug you can do this.

I'll check,

Do you know how big they are roughly? And is the 1.9 TDi engine bigger?
I have the FSi but not sure if it's any smaller.

I'm keen to do it so if it looks like it'll fit, I'll get in touch with Martyn.

Remeber I also have a bigger battery, turbo charger and intercooler. I think they just about managed to shoe horn my engine in, Mikeyw has the same engine, you can see it on his members ride section.

Forward me your email address and I'll attach the picture that Martyn sent me of the kit.

Thanks, got the photo.
I'm going to check tonight to make sure it's something I can do and that it'll fit.

Mole,

Where did the ballasts go?

I take it you have plenty of space then because you have a 1.4.

Well I haven't fitted them yet as I need the bulbs first, but there is plenty of room with the 1.4!

Can someone post here or e-mail me the photo? (e-mail [email protected])

BTW how much does the whole kit cost (incl. bulbs, starter box etc.)?

Thanks,

Just to let you know, I wont be able to fit them, main reason being that I can't afford it at the moment. :(

Although it looks like there is enough room to fit, the FSi Engine appears a bit bigger than the 1.2, not sure about the 1.4?
