Head Unit advice

Post by tornado_ally »

I have been looking at nead units for a while now and am torn between the Alpine 9835R and the Pioneer DEH-P9600MP. I would like to hear peoples opinions on these two and what they would recommend.

I have noticed with postage and packing, both are a lot cheaper to have shipped over from America than to buy from a local british website. Whats the catch? I have heard of problmes with radio rception and customs duty. can anyone expand on that?
much appreciated

The problem with USA HU is that they don't have radios with odd numbers like "99.1" they have "99.0" or "99.2". I think it's a lot more cheaper to buy them from EU countrys. I bought mine for 550€ from Spain including shipping. Mine is Alpine CDA-9835R. Great HU.

You'll also have to pay duty when it arrives (I think) making it more expensive than it seems. I might be wrong on this tho.

I think the duty is your luck of the draw. You can take the chance and try to get it free.

Depend what you want from a stereo as to which is the better model.

The Alpine would have much better sound quality, but doesnt look as good as the Pioneer. (IMO)
